Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Västerås, Sweden, seeks a travelling Service Engineer to join the Global Center of Competence Power Quality. You will work within the GCoC Service department on maintenance and commissioning of electrical power plants, with extensive travel to customer sites.

We value a BSc in Engineering, 5+ years in field service, strong English, and a collaborative, customer-focused approach. EU passport is advantageous for travel.

Qualifications

• BSc in Engineering with electrical power specialization.
• At least 5 years field service experience in maintenance or commissioning of electrical power plants.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken).
• EU passport is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on globally installed equipment including control systems and high-voltage components.
• Focus on maintenance, fault tracing and lifecycle management to support plants.
• Participate in service, update and upgrade projects with advanced power and electrical systems, including commissioning activities.
• Deliver high-quality technical solutions with cost-effective engineering.
• Maintain frequent contact with other engineering groups, project managers, offices, suppliers and customers.
• Travel at least 40% of working time while representing Hitachi Energy professionally.
• Adhere to Hitachi Energy’s safety and integrity values in all actions.

In this role you will be part of "Global Center of Competence Power Quality” (former FACTS), a business unit within Hitachi Energy. FACTS technology enables power systems owners to increase their existing power systems' capacity while improving electrical stability. The result is that more electrical power can reach consumers with minimal environmental impact after shorter project times and at lower investment costs.

This pioneering technology is developed at the Power Quality unit in Västerås and sold to customers worldwide.

How You’ll Make An Impact

• Working with preventive as well as corrective maintenance of our globally installed base including all parts of a application from computer-based control system and high voltage equipment like transformers, thyristor valves, reactors and capacitors.
• Focusing on areas including maintenance, fault tracing and lifecycle management to support our customers’ plants during the lifetime.
• Working in challenging service-, update- and upgrade projects with advanced power and electrical systems, this could include commissioning activities.
• Working with high quality deliveries and cost-effective engineering solutions technology.
• Each project and task have specific requirements regarding functionality and to achieve this, you will need to have frequent contact with other engineering groups, project managers, local Hitachi Energy’s offices, suppliers and our customers
• Ability to travel at least 40% of your work time, always representing Hitachi Energy the best possible way

Your background

• You hold a BSc in Engineering, with a specialisation in electrical power engineering or similar
• At least 5 years of experience from field service positions working with maintenance or commissioning of electrical power plants, including control systems and/or protection systems. Good knowledge of working with electrical hazards is a must.
• A driven, teamwork-orientated achiever, used to communicate with stakeholders including customers in a professional way.
• An outgoing personality is a must, as this job entails a great deal of customer contacts and close cooperation with colleagues and suppliers
• Fluency in English – both written and spoken
• Due to the travel requirements associated with the role, holding an EU passport is considered an advantage
