Job summary

Stegra in Boden, Sweden, is hiring a Field Engineering Manager – STM for our Engineering team in Project Delivery. This site-based role connects design, construction, EPCM partners and contractors, focusing on making engineering work in the field and keeping execution safe and efficient.

You will lead field engineers, manage RFIs and STQs, review drawings, and resolve constructability issues while guiding technical decisions across boundaries to keep progress on schedule.

Qualifications

• Experience in field engineering or engineering-construction interfaces on large-scale projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or related field.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specs, and vendor docs for field use.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities on construction sites.
• Familiarity with RFIs, STQs, field changes, and as-built docs.
• Experience working across design, construction, contractors, QA/QC, HSE, procurement, and project controls.
• Strong practical problem-solving and field-implementable solutions.
• Proven leadership with clear English communication.

• Review drawings, specifications, vendor documentation to identify field issues
• Manage Site Technical Queries (STQs) and RFIs, ensuring timely resolution
• Lead constructability reviews with construction teams, contractors, and design engineers
• Coordinate technical matters with EPCM partners, OEMs, procurement, QA/QC, HSE, and Project Controls
• Manage field changes, deviations, site instructions, redlines, and as-built processes
• Support construction planning by identifying engineering constraints and risks to schedule
• Lead and coordinate site-based field and discipline engineers

What you’ll do

Right now, we are looking for a Field Engineering Manager – STM for our Engineering team within Project Delivery. This is a site-based role in Boden, supporting the construction of our large-scale greenfield steel plant.

As Field Engineering Manager, you will be the key technical link between the design organization, construction teams, EPCM partners, and contractors. Your focus will be on making engineering work in the field: resolving technical and constructability issues, managing field changes, and ensuring construction teams have the right information and engineering support to keep execution moving safely and efficiently.

Specific to this role, the day-to-day tasks will include the following but as we are a growing company with very little silos between teams, other tasks might be included as well.

• Act as the primary on-site engineering contact, connecting design teams with construction and contractor organizations
• Review drawings, specifications, vendor documentation, and technical information to identify and resolve field and constructability issues
• Manage Site Technical Queries (STQs) and Requests for Information (RFIs), ensuring timely and clear resolution
• Lead constructability reviews together with construction teams, contractors, and design engineers
• Coordinate technical matters with EPCM partners, OEMs, procurement, QA/QC, HSE, and Project Controls
• Manage field changes, technical deviations, Site Instructions, redlines, and as-built processes through the appropriate approval routes
• Support construction planning and look-ahead activities by identifying engineering constraints and risks to schedule
• Lead and coordinate site-based field and discipline engineers, providing technical direction, support, and development

• Relevant experience in field engineering, project engineering, or engineering-construction interface roles within large-scale industrial or construction projects
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or another relevant engineering discipline
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities in a site-based construction environment
• Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, vendor documentation, and construction methods
• Good understanding of RFI/STQ processes, field changes, document control, redlines, and as-built documentation
• Experience working across design, construction, contractors, QA/QC, HSE, procurement, and Project Controls
• Strong practical problem-solving skills with the ability to develop solutions that can be implemented in the field
• Experience leading or coordinating engineering teams, with strong communication skills in English
