Job description

Faculty position – Coastal Oceanography, Stockholm University

The Department of Meteorology at Stockholm University (MISU) conducts research and education in an international environment, addressing fundamental questions about the ocean and the atmosphere, with a focus on weather and climate.

Our education programs cover modern weather forecasting, the climate system and climate processes. Our current research programs include the dynamics, physics, chemistry and biogeochemistry of the ocean and the atmosphere. We work from the deep ocean to the mesosphere and from the tropics to the poles. We use theory and statistical methods, numerical modeling and reanalysis, and observations from the land surface and ships, from balloons and aircraft, and from rockets and satellites.

Subject description
Study of transport, interior mixing and air-sea exchange in the coastal sea, and the coupling of these processes to the biogeochemistry of the sea.

Main responsibilities
Research, teaching and supervision. The work will be carried out at 20% at Baltic Sea Centre, Stockholm University.

Qualification requirements
In order to qualify for employment as associate professor, the applicant must have demonstrated good teaching skills and have a doctoral degree, or equivalent research expertise, of relevance to the subject area and the main responsibilities of the position.

All teaching positions at Stockholm University require the ability to collaborate and the general ability and suitability to perform one’s duties.

Assessment criteria
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research and teaching skills. Special attention will thereafter also be given to the relevance of planned research for the Baltic Sea.

The assessment of research skills will focus primarily on merits within the subject area of the position.

Teaching and learning in higher education
Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education, or equivalent knowledge, is an advantage. An applicant who has not completed at least 15 credits of teaching and learning in higher education and is not considered to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge should undergo such training within the first two years of employment.

The Faculty´s criteria for assessment of research and teaching skills: www.science.su.se. The candidate should be able to teach a broad range of the departmental curriculum. The language of instruction in first-cycle courses and programmes is Swedish. If the successful candidate does not speak Swedish at the time of appointment, he/she is expected to acquire the necessary language skills during the first two years of employment.
