Job summary

Voyado is seeking an Engineering Manager for Search and Recommendations to lead two specialized teams at the heart of our Product Discovery Engine. You will shape delivery, coaching, and engineering practices while staying close to technical discussions and architecture.

You’ll mentor eight engineers, partner with Product Managers to align priorities, and drive sustainable ways of working as Voyado grows. A strong people focus with a technical foundation is essential.

Great engineering teams don’t need a manager who always has the answer. They need someone who creates the conditions for the team to find the best answer, and who steps forward when the path gets complicated.

As Engineering Manager for Search and Recommendations, you’ll lead two teams working at the heart of Voyado’s Product Discovery Engine. Their algorithms determine which products millions of shoppers discover, how results are ranked, and which recommendations appear next.

The engineers you’ll work with are highly skilled specialists solving complex technical problems. Your job is not to be the smartest person in the room, or to write the code yourself. It is to bring direction, context, and structure; challenge ideas with curiosity; and make sure the teams can turn deep technical expertise into reliable customer value.

What you’ll work on

You’ll be responsible for the people, delivery, and engineering conditions across our Search and Recommendations teams, currently eight engineers in total. You’ll help both teams maintain focus, manage competing priorities, and build sustainable ways of working as Voyado continues to grow.

This is a leadership role for someone who wants to stay close to engineering without spending every day in the code. You’ll join stand‑ups, weekly meetings, and technical discussions to understand what the teams are solving. Your technical background will help you ask useful questions, contribute perspectives, and act as a sounding board, even when someone else is the expert.

Some of the things you’ll be up to

• Coach and develop engineers through regular one‑to‑ones, feedback, and clear expectations
• Create the structure, processes, and working conditions the teams need to deliver high-quality software
• Keep track of progress and remain accountable for delivery, quality, and the value the teams produce
• Work closely with Product Managers to align priorities, scope, and ways of working
• Help highly specialized engineers connect technical decisions to wider product and business outcomes
• Foster collaboration between Engineering, Product, Support, and Customer Success
• Contribute to shared initiatives across Engineering, including our AI journey, feedback practices, and common processes
• Help the organization evolve as teams, products, and priorities change

Our teams are trusted to manage their daily work. This role is not about adding unnecessary process. It is about knowing when to give people space, when to create clarity, and when the team needs you to take the lead.

So, who are you?

You’re a people‑focused engineering leader with a strong technical foundation. You understand how software teams work because you’ve been close to the work yourself - perhaps as a developer, QA engineer, technical project manager, or in another technical role.

You’re comfortable listening, asking thoughtful questions, and changing your mind when someone presents a strong arguments. At the same time, you’re confident enough to make decisions, set expectations, and address difficult situations when needed.

You’re independent, communicative, and proactive. You notice when a process creates friction and take the initiative to improve it. You enjoy change, and you’re willing to drive it rather than wait for someone else to provide a finished plan.

We believe you have:

• A degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or another relevant technical field—or an equivalent technical foundation built through your career
• Previous people‑management responsibility
• A technical background and experience working closely with software engineering teams
• A solid understanding of agile software development
• Experience supporting teams in planning, delivery, and continuous improvement
• The ability to understand and discuss complex technical topics without needing to be the person implementing them
• Strong communication and facilitation skills
• Professional fluency in English

Experience leading engineers working with algorithms, search, recommendations, data‑intensive products, or other technically complex systems is a plus.
