Job description

Overview

Örebro University and the School of Science and Technology are offering a doctoral student position in the doctoral programme in mathematics, concluding with a doctoral degree.

Start Date

Autumn semester 2026.

Project Description

The doctoral student will conduct research in portfolio optimization focusing on ill‑posed problems and develop stable and efficient algorithms. This research builds on classical and modern portfolio theory.

Supervision

The student will be supervised by Professor Mårten Gulliksson (principal supervisor), Docent Magnus Ögren, and Docent Stepan Mazur.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent research on ill‑posed portfolio optimisation and algorithm development.
  • Prepare and present research results in a doctoral thesis.
  • Engage in teaching activities amounting to about 20% of the time over a five‑year period.
  • Participate in a tailored seminar series covering doctoral programme rules, career development, support, and networking.
Programme and Studentship

The doctoral programme comprises 240 credits (four years of full‑time study) with courses and an independent research project. The position includes a full‑time doctoral studentship lasting four years full‑time (five years including teaching duties). Initial salary is SEK 32,300 per month.
