Chalmers Tekniska Högskola Aktiebolag is seeking a Doctoral student to join our research group focused on High-temperature diagnostics in Gothenburg.

As part of this role, you will develop a new thermal imaging system to enhance biomass conversion efficiency in power plants. The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field and will engage in both research and teaching activities.

The position offers a fully funded four-year contract with a starting salary of 35,725 SEK per month along with various employee benefits.

Qualifications

  • Master’s level degree (at least 240 ECTS credits) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, and analyse experiments.
  • Conduct modelling and develop tools such as CFD, Matlab, and Python.
  • Teach at Chalmers’ undergraduate level and collaborate with industrial partners.

Overview

Join our research group for a Doctoral student position to create important new insights into High‑temperature diagnostics.

About the research project

The project focuses on developing a new thermal imaging system to improve the efficiency of biomass conversion in power plants. Work combines advanced radiation and CFD modelling with spectrometer and camera‑based data collection. You will be part of the group’s teams that develop diagnostic set‑ups and conduct experiments on multiple scales.

Qualifications
  • Master’s level degree (at least 240 ECTS credits) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English.

Responsibilities
  • Design, execute and analyse experiments.
  • Conduct modelling and develop tools (CFD, Matlab, Python). The project will also involve developing new methodologies.
  • Take advanced courses within the Graduate School.
  • Teach at Chalmers’ undergraduate level or perform other duties accounting for 20 % of working hours.
  • Collaborate with industrial partners and other researchers; maintain contact with project partners.
  • Communicate results through scientific conferences, journals, project meetings and reports.
Contract terms
  • Fully funded from start.
  • Fixed‑term appointment of four years, extendable to five years with up to 20 % teaching.
  • Starting salary of 35 725 SEK per month (valid from May 1 2026).
  • Doctoral studies require physical presence throughout the entire period; a valid residence permit must be presented by the study start date.
