Doctoral studies comprise four years of full‑time study, leading to a doctoral degree. As part of the employment you may have departmental duties corresponding to up to 20 % of full‑time employment, distributed throughout the study period, which can extend the studies. Departmental duties usually consist of teaching at first‑ and second‑cycle levels, but may also include research and administration.
Within the first three calendar years after commencement you will be required to participate in up to two months of mobility and exchange with one or more of HDK-Valand's partners, while continuing your doctoral research.
The position is an employment; you are required to be at the workplace during normal working hours unless otherwise agreed or due to illness.

Upon admission you will be employed as a doctoral student at the University of Gothenburg. Initial employment may apply for a maximum of one year and may be renewed in extensions of up to two years. A doctoral student may be employed for a maximum of eight years, but the total period of employment may not exceed the equivalent of full‑time doctoral study for four years.
