Can you engineer a brighter tomorrow? It’s crystal clear: the actions we take in the next few years will significantly impact our future. At Volvo Cars, we embrace change. We’re committed to transforming the automotive industry and leading in electrification. For this, we’re seeking out more creative minds to shape that future. Don’t miss this opportunity to create your tomorrow. Let's introduce ourselves The Solidity and Component NVH team is part of the Vehicle NVH and Sound Quality section within Vehicle Attributes, inside the Engineering organisation, at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg. We play a key role in shaping the driving experience of Volvo Cars and in supporting the company’s strategic direction: “Freedom to move in a Personal, Sustainable & Safe way.” As a competence center, we bring together expertise in wind noise, propulsion NVH, operational sound quality, audio and ANC performance, interactive sound design, and solidity. Working in close collaboration with design and release ARTs, we contribute to shaping the key driving experience attributes that define how our vehicles are perceived by customers.

What You'll Do

The Solidity and Component NVH team is responsible for the key driving experience attributes of squeak and rattle, solid feel, and operational sound quality. We partner closely with design teams across the organisation, providing the expertise and guidance needed to develop vehicles with strong attribute performance from concept phase through to mass production. In the early stages, we use CAE tools and engineering judgement to assess virtual designs in iterative development loops. In later phases, we validate performance in prototype vehicles and in production. The close collaboration between CAE engineers and test engineers is central to delivering clear feedback, robust analysis, and well-founded recommendations for improvement.

As a Senior Test Engineer within Solidity and Component NVH, you will evaluate vehicles and components with a focus on squeak and rattle, solid feel, door closing sound, and noises from components such as window regulators and seat adjustment systems. Testing is carried out both on complete vehicles at test tracks and on component rigs. The role also includes travel to Volvo Cars production sites around the world when evaluations are needed in factory environments, during development, industrialisation, or launch support.

Your work will include root cause analysis and close collaboration with responsible designers, CAE engineers, release teams, and suppliers to identify improvements and drive robust solutions. You will also contribute to capturing learnings in design guidelines, requirements, and test methods together with the CAE team and the design and release organisations. Acoustic measurement equipment and commercial NVH software are an integrated part of our daily work, used continuously for analysis, troubleshooting, evaluation, and validation throughout the development process. These tools help us understand issues, confirm performance, and provide clear feedback and recommendations to design teams.

What You'll Bring

To succeed in this role, we believe you bring the following skills and experience:

Required qualifications:
  • Relevant engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Technical Acoustics, Structural Dynamics, or similar, combined with substantial relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of structural dynamics, acoustics, and signal processing.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in squeak and rattle and/or NVH testing, with a practical and problem-solving approach.
  • Experience using commercial measurement systems and NVH test tools for evaluation and troubleshooting.
  • A clear understanding of the value of combining physical test and CAE methods.
  • Driving licence.
Meritorious qualifications:
  • Experience working with the assembly or disassembly of complex systems, such as vehicles, is considered an advantage.
  • Experience from vehicle development, launch activities, or production support is considered an advantage.
  • Experience from proving ground, rig, shaker, or other component and vehicle test environments is considered an advantage.
  • Experience in supplier collaboration, issue resolution, or cross-functional engineering work is considered an advantage.
  • Experience in requirement setting, method development, or creation of design guidelines is considered an advantage.
Personal qualities:
  • Analytical capability
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good communications skills
  • Ability to build networks
  • Customer focused
  • Result oriented
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Interest in cars and technology
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken
