Job description

Do you want to be an enabler of renewable energy transition through electrification?

We are now looking for a Category Manager to join our team of 20+ procurement professionals.

Our procurement organization consists of a strategic team of Category Managers and SRM specialists, and a sourcing team of more than 10 Sourcing Managers responsible for tendering projects, handling delivery contracts, and managing complex call-offs under existing framework agreements.

Together, we support Vattenfall Distribution in delivering both CAPEX and OPEX targets — and thereby enabling the energy transition for industries and households.

About the Position

As a Category Manager within Vattenfall’s Staff Function Procurement, you will support Vattenfall Distribution Sweden and other Distribution System Operators within the Vattenfall Group.

Your focus will be on strategic category management for Field Services, covering the services required to operate and maintain our grid assets and meet regulatory and grid availability requirements. You will drive long‑term development of the category, secure framework agreements, and enable reliability, performance and innovation.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

As Category Manager for Field Services, you will take strategic responsibility for ensuring that the services required to operate and maintain Vattenfall’s network assets are available, reliable and future‑proof.

Strategic Category Management
  • Lead the development and implementation of category strategies for Field Services based on business needs, market conditions, industry structure and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the category enables secure operations and maintenance of our assets to meet grid availability and compliance obligations.
  • Manage and develop the main subcategories within Field Services to support both current and future operational needs.
Cross Functional Leadership
  • Lead cross‑functional category teams, including representatives from internal customers, technical managers, contract management, purchasing and support functions such as Legal, Security and HSEQ.
  • Collaborate closely with Distribution Sweden stakeholders to ensure alignment with business strategy, operational needs and performance targets.
Analysis and Insights
  • Conduct demand analyses within Distribution Sweden to understand current and future needs.
  • Perform market analyses to identify trends, risks, opportunities and innovation potential.
  • Use data‑driven insights to support decision‑making and continuous development of the category.
Supplier Strategy & Relationship Management
  • Map and evaluate the supplier landscape, including existing suppliers, emerging players, substitutes and alternative solutions.
  • Conduct supplier segmentation and classification to ensure a robust and balanced supplier base.
  • Act as Supplier Responsible for selected key suppliers, driving partnership development, performance improvements and collaborative innovation.
  • Support ongoing and future deliveries under established framework agreements.
Sourcing & Delivery Enablement
  • Secure framework agreements that meet operational, technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure efficient, uninterrupted supply of services needed for operations and maintenance.
Qualifications
  • A relevant academic background, ideally B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Engineering or similar.
  • 5–10 years’ experience as Senior Buyer or Category Manager.
  • Experience from manufacturing, energy, utilities or infrastructure industries.
  • Experience working with framework agreements and delivery management.
  • Strong capability in supplier engagement and collaborative innovation.
  • Understanding of general terms and conditions such as NL, Orgalime, AB or ABT.
  • Excellent communication skills in Swedish and English (professional working proficiency).

You are analytical, curious and confident in using data to support your decisions. You collaborate naturally with others and create a positive team environment where people can contribute and grow.

Beneficial Experience and Skills
  • Experience from other Nordic Distribution System Operators.
  • Background from suppliers delivering field services to electrical utilities.
  • Proven track record of achieving challenging targets.
  • Knowledge of the energy sector and its regulatory framework.
  • Understanding of EU procurement law (LUF).
