Hitachi Energy is seeking a Business R&D Team Leader to join our Control & Protection Design Organization. You will lead a cross-functional team spanning hardware, software, optical and mechanical engineering, driving technical direction and long-term capability development within R&D.

You’ll own design ownership, ensure quality across the full lifecycle, and collaborate with stakeholders to translate strategy into tangible product outcomes in a global matrix organization.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
• 8–10+ years of experience in R&D, product development or innovation.
• Proven leadership experience combining people management with technical responsibility.
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering environments (hardware/software/mechanical/optical).
• Experience with full product lifecycle including testing, verification and industrialization.
• Ability to drive technical strategy within a global matrix organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of HW & SW engineers and consultants within the Business R&D.
• Own technical design, quality, and long-term sustainability of products.
• Drive R&D strategies aligned with business objectives and technology roadmap.

We are now looking for a Business R&D Team Leader to join our Control & Protection Design Organization. In this role, you will take on a key position combining technical leadership and people management, with accountability for design ownership, technical quality, and long-term capability development within R&D.
You will lead a cross-functional team covering hardware, software, optical and mechanical engineering, ensuring strong technical direction and high product quality across the full lifecycle. This role is central to strengthening our R&D capabilities and supporting continued growth in a global, matrix organization.

Your background

• Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field

• Proven experience in a leadership role, combining people management and technical responsibility
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering environments (hardware, software, mechanical or optical)
• Experience working with full product lifecycle, including testing, verification, and industrialization
• Ability to drive technical strategy while managing complexity in a global matrix organization
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience in building teams, structures, and ways of working is highly valued
