Job description

Interim Business Controller – Consumer Products & International Supply Chain
The Opportunity

We are looking for a commercially minded Business Controller to join an international consumer product business with an established distributor network and manufacturing operations in Europe.

This is not a traditional reporting-focused controlling role. We are looking for someone who wants to understand what drives the business financially — from manufacturing costs and product margins through to distributor sales, inventory, working capital and market performance.

You will work closely with Finance, Sales, Operations and Supply Chain, providing the analysis and insight needed to make better commercial decisions.

What You Will Be Responsible For
  • Business controlling and financial analysis across markets, products and distributors
  • Budgeting, forecasting and monthly performance follow-up
  • Analysing sales, gross margin, COGS and profitability
  • Understanding and challenging manufacturing costs and cost development
  • Monitoring inventory, working capital and cash-flow drivers
  • Providing profitability analysis by product, market, customer and distributor
  • Supporting pricing and commercial decisions with relevant financial analysis
  • Identifying deviations and turning financial data into clear business recommendations
  • Working with manufacturing and supply-chain teams to understand cost and efficiency drivers
  • Supporting management with business cases, investment analysis and scenario modelling
  • Working with international entities and intercompany transactions
  • Continuously improving reporting, analysis and controlling processes
What We Are Looking For:

You have several years of experience as a Business Controller, Commercial Controller, Financial Controller or similar, ideally within a consumer products, FMCG, retail, manufacturing or international product-based environment.

Importantly, you understand that controlling is about more than producing reports. You are curious about why the numbers look the way they do and what the business should do about them.

We would particularly value experience with:

  • Consumer products and/or branded products
  • Distributor or indirect sales models
  • Manufacturing and production environments
  • International supply chains
  • Manufacturing in Eastern or Central Europe
  • Product costing and gross-margin analysis
  • Inventory and working-capital management
  • Budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling
  • ERP systems and advanced Excel/Power BI skills
Your Personality

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Commercially curious – you want to understand the business behind the numbers
  • Analytical – comfortable digging into detail but able to see the bigger picture
  • Challenging – willing to question assumptions and ask the uncomfortable questions
  • Pragmatic – focused on finding solutions rather than simply reporting problems
  • Business-oriented – able to communicate financial insights to non-financial stakeholders
  • Hands-on – comfortable getting into the data when necessary
  • Internationally minded – confident working across markets, cultures and functions
Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to take a central role in a product-driven international business where Finance is closely connected to the commercial and operational side of the organisation.

You will have the opportunity to influence decisions around profitability, pricing, manufacturing, inventory, distributors and growth — rather than simply reporting what has already happened.

If you enjoy being close to the business and want your analysis to have a tangible impact, this could be an interesting next step.
