The Electric Power Engineering group in Skellefteå enjoys a strong national and international reputation for its leading research. It is internationally recognized as a world leader in power quality and is also highly regarded nationally for its undergraduate education in electric power systems. Over the years, the group's research results have attracted significant attention from both industry and academia.

Subject description

The research subject Electric Power Engineering covers studies of sustainable systems for production of electrical energy, transport of electrical energy and the interaction between the power grid, electricity production and electricity consumption.

Duties

Associate Professors are normally expected to be engaged in the university's education, pedagogical development activities, and research. Responsibilities also include keeping abreast of international developments within the discipline and supervising doctoral students. Associate Professors are expected to contribute to the university's development efforts, work to secure external research funding for the subject area, and be available for leadership and administrative assignments.

Associate Professors are also expected to lead research projects, communicate their results through academic publications, and maintain an active presence within the research community of their field.

As an Associate Professor, you will strengthen the research group and broaden its research activities, supervise doctoral students, and teach students. Possible research specializations include:

  • Operation and operational reliability of future transmission and distribution networks
  • Planning, hosting capacity (grid capacity limits), and reliability of future transmission and distribution networks
  • Protection of future transmission and distribution networks
Qualifications

Qualified for an appointment as an associate professor are those who have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise. As much attention must be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of research expertise.

To meet the requirements for the employment as an associate professor, the applicant:

  • must have demonstrated a research profile showing a clear progress after the completion of the doctoral thesis, and scientific contributions corresponding to at least two doctoral theses including the doctoral thesis;
  • must have worked as an independent researcher, and thus has, experience of research-related commissions of trust, for example, as a reviewer for journals, and/or as an external reviewer; experience of applying for and being granted, in competition, external funding for research and/or development projects; experience of having leading roles in research projects; must have published research output together with researchers within research environments other than the applicant's own environment.
  • must have experience of supervising doctoral students and must have been the assistant supervisor for at least one doctoral student for at least two years, unless there are exceptional reasons to the contrary;
  • must demonstrate pedagogical expertise through proven experience, teaching expertise and teaching development
  • must have completed higher education pedagogy courses equivalent to 7.5 higher education credits or otherwise have acquired equivalent knowledge;
  • must demonstrate the ability to collaborate with the wider community by means of, among other things, making new knowledge available to the wider community; incorporation of societal needs into educational and/or research contexts.
