Overview

The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience invites applications for a 5‑year tenure‑track position as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.

Appointment as Assistant Professor

This is a 5‑year full‑time tenure‑track position in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. The employee has the opportunity to acquire both pedagogical and scientific qualifications. An Assistant Professor is expected to improve the ability to formulate and solve scientific problems, to publish scientific articles, and to develop abilities in teaching and supervision through practical training and independent study. At the end of the five years the employee will be evaluated for internal recruitment to a permanent position as Associate Professor.

Qualifications and Expectations
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field, obtained within seven years before the application deadline (exceptions may be made for documented circumstances such as parental leave or military service).
  • Independent, high‑quality research and potential to build a competitive research program.
  • Interest in teaching and educational development.
  • Experience in attracting or applying for research funding.
  • Ability to build national and international networks.
  • Pedagogical interest and potential.
  • Commitment to sustainable development and academic citizenship.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English (Swedish language courses are offered).
Research and Teaching Profile
  • Conducted research at the highest international level, demonstrated by publications in leading journals and presentations at leading conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish national and international collaborations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Post‑doctoral or equivalent stay, ideally from an institution other than the one where the PhD was awarded.
  • Teamwork, leadership, organizational and entrepreneurial skills are clear advantages.
Appointment as Associate Professor

The appointment as Associate Professor is a permanent faculty position. An Associate Professor is expected to conduct research at highly international standards, continuously apply for research funding, and actively contribute to the development of the subject area nationally and internationally. The employee is expected to supervise doctoral students, teach at all levels, participate in courses and programme development, and continuously develop their education skills.

Qualifications for Associate Professor
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field and demonstrate independent scientific research of a high international quality and growing production of research.
  • Open‑minded and interested in collaborating both within and outside Chalmers, nationally and internationally.
  • Interest in and experience from teaching and supervision.
  • Leadership and organizational skills.
  • Conducted research at the highest international level, demonstrated by publications in leading journals and presentations at leading conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire research funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish national and international collaborations.
  • Supervised doctoral students as main and/or assistant supervisor.
  • Higher Education pedagogical training in accordance with the current SUHF recommendation (preferable).
  • Excellent teaching proficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
