Job Title - Android Automotive OS Platform Engineer
Key Responsibilities
The Android Automotive OS Platform Engineer enables scalable, reusable, and product-ready AAOS platform capabilities for infotainment and cockpit programs. The role combines hands‑on Android Automotive engineering with platform ownership, source structure governance, feature integration, and cross‑functional collaboration across product, architecture, customer projects, and global software teams.
Scope of Work
- Develop, integrate, and maintain Android Automotive OS platform features across framework, services, applications, and vehicle‑facing components.
- Work with AOSP and AAOS components such as Car Service, Vehicle HAL interfaces, Binder, AIDL/HIDL, permissions, system services, and automotive APIs.
- Set up and maintain Android platform configurations, including repo manifests, product definitions, device configurations, lunch targets, and build variants.
- Govern the Android software base to support reuse, scalability, efficient customer‑project start‑up, and long‑term maintainability.
- Support platform upgrades, integration of new releases from Google and SoC vendors, and alignment with customer, product, and architecture needs.
- Explore and prototype AI‑enabled in‑vehicle features using on‑device, cloud, or hybrid AI approaches where they create clear product value.
- Contribute to quality, maintainability, security, performance, and release readiness through reviews, testing, CI/CD, and structured engineering practices.
- Strong software engineering experience in Android platform development, Android Automotive OS, AOSP, infotainment, embedded Android, or comparable complex software platforms.
- Good understanding of Android internals, including framework architecture, system services, IPC, permissions, lifecycle, resource overlays, HAL integration, and debugging of platform issues.
- Practical experience with Android build and source management flows, including repo, manifests, product and device configuration, lunch targets, and platform customization.
- Programming experience in Kotlin, Java, C++, and/or C, with the ability to work across application, framework, system, and native layers.
- Experience working in agile software development with Git/Gerrit, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code reviews, and structured release processes.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across product management, architecture, engineering, customer projects, suppliers, and distributed teams.
- Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to explain technical trade‑offs clearly.
- Experience or strong interest in developing AI‑enabled Android features for in‑vehicle, mobile, embedded, or connected products.
- Understanding of when to use on‑device, cloud‑based, or hybrid AI based on privacy, latency, cost, connectivity, safety, and product requirements.
- Familiarity with technologies such as Android AICore, Gemini Nano, Gemma, ML Kit GenAI APIs, TensorFlow Lite, Vertex AI, Firebase AI, Gemini models, or similar AI platforms.
- Ability to translate AI capabilities into practical product features such as intelligent assistants, personalization, summarization, diagnostics, natural language interaction, or context‑aware vehicle experiences.
