Overview
This job is mainly to perform painting work after surface preparation is executed safely, effectively, efficiently and timely at P.E and Dock stage of new build ships. The supervisor must be familiar with airless spraying, touch-up and related masking work to avoid contamination and associated cleaning work. Blasting and painting experience is required. The role will work closely together with the production manager, engineers and foreman to ensure that all assigned projects are executed safely, on time, and within budget in accordance with the contract and International Maritime Industries Management System (IMIMS).
Responsibilities
- Ensure proper use of airless spray equipment and spray gun/tip to apply various kinds of paints on the surface.
- Ensure proper use of rollers and brushes to apply various kinds of paints on the surface.
- Ensure proper control of paint agitator.
- Ensure proper control of equipment and guns to prevent any paint defects and injury to co-workers.
- Perform painting work according to the project specifications/codes and following the drawings.
- Perform transporting paint materials, paint mixing work, masking, and cleaning according to the project specifications/codes and following the drawings.
- Ensure all assigned works are executed safely on time.
- Ensure that all technical drawings and documentation, such as painting specification, ITP and painting drawing is followed.
- When engaging in any activity, ensure that you have a valid work permit (confined space).
- Attend safety and daily toolbox meetings and under the risk involved with the job.
- Monitor materials usage to ensure possible shortages are identified and addressed at the earliest possible opportunity.
- Ability to perform pre-painting preparations and examine finished work and ensure they meet standards for excellence.
- Inspect the equipment and tools they use while performing their job and maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Security (HSES) responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Education: Diploma degree or equivalent qualification (blasting and painting apprentice)
- Professional Qualifications:
- Preferred certified painting operator by NACE/SSPC/FROSIO or any other organizations.
- Preferred certified NACE CIP Level 2
- Competencies:
- Understanding of surface preparation and painting processes, paint marking.
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety hazard, use of protection equipment, coating materials, mixing and thinning of coatings, coating pot-life, surface requirements.
- Inspecting paint material, equipment and tools.
- Familiar with engineering drawings and terminology.
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage/motivate a team.
- Must be able to collaborate with other departments and communicate results and concerns to the production management team.
- Must be ready to work under pressure and drive a team to completion against aggressive timelines and work scopes and willing to be trained to handle other tasks than painting as the need arise.
- Experience: At least 15 years’ experience in the Shipyard.
