Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Manager, Event Safety and Security to join our global esports events team. As the world\'s leading esports company, EFG hosts over 50 major events annually, including Intel Extreme Masters (IEM), ESL Pro League, DreamHack festivals, and various regional competitions. We are also the official operating partner of the Esports World Cup, a premier multi-title competition in Riyadh. This leadership role will oversee global safety and security operations, mostly focused on events but also on our wider organization, including our offices. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record with the hands-on management of practical safety and security at large-scale events, alongside practical experience in developing, implementing and embedding best-in-class Safety and Security Management Systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-Day Safety and Security
- Strategic Guidance – Provide expert advice to event project managers on security planning and risk mitigation.
- Risk Assessment – Collaborate with event teams to identify threats, vulnerabilities, and develop proactive security measures.
- Safety & Security Management – Support project managers in implementing crowd management and event-specific safety and security enhancements.
- Regulatory Compliance – Ensure adherence to local, regional, and international laws, regulations, and standards for esports and large-scale gatherings.
- Training – Educate event staff and security personnel on best practices for handling high-pressure situations.
- Incident Management – Lead investigations, document findings, and drive continuous improvements in security protocols.
- Threat Monitoring – Analyze global security trends and regional incidents, adapting protective measures in coordination with venue safety teams and law enforcement.
Develop & Implement Safety and Security Management System
- Management System – Develop, implement and embed a best-in-class safety and security management system for global esports events.
- Continuous Improvement – Partner with senior leadership to drive improvements and embed a strong safety culture.
- Risk Audits – Conduct first-line safety and security reviews for events and key contractors.
Collaborate with Stakeholders
- Internal Coordination – Work closely with event project managers, logistics, and operations teams to integrate security measures seamlessly into event planning.
- External Liaison – Serve as the primary contact for security-related matters across business partners, publishers, regulators, law enforcement, insurance providers, and other stakeholders.
Vendor and Service Provider Management
- Vendor Oversight – Manage external security and health & safety providers, ensuring contracts align with compliance standards and ethical practices.
- Staff Deployment – Oversee security personnel allocation, ensuring optimal coverage for each event.
Emergency Response Planning for Events
- Crisis Preparedness – Collaborate with event managers to develop event-specific emergency response plans.
- Training & Response – Equip security personnel with the skills to handle critical incidents professionally.
- BCM Integration – Align emergency response protocols with broader Business Continuity Management (BCM) strategies.
Experience and capabilities
- Event Safety & Security Expertise – Proven experience in health & safety management within sports, entertainment, or large-scale live events.
- Safety and Security System Managements – Extensive experience in developing, implementing, embedding and auditing of management systems.
- Technical Leadership – Skilled in risk assessments, investigations, RCA analysis, site inspections and reporting.
- Regulatory Knowledge – Strong understanding of GEA (Saudi General Entertainment Authority) regulations, KSA labor laws, and health & safety laws in key regions (Germany, Poland, USA).
- Regional Expertise – Fluency in Arabic & English (preferred) or significant experience working in the Middle East for effective communication.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Skilled in liaising with event project managers, contractors, law enforcement, insurance representatives, and business partners.
- High-Pressure Decision-Making – Ability to thrive in dynamic environments, making strategic security decisions under pressure.
- Communication & Influence – Outstanding ability to clearly convey security protocols and influence stakeholders effectively.
- Vendor & Personnel Management – Proven expertise in managing external security service providers optimizing security personnel deployment.
- Risk & Process Analysis – Strong analytical skills, identifying operational risks and improving security frameworks.
- Security Technology Integration – Expertise in surveillance systems, access control, and other security technologies for seamless event planning.
- Flexibility – Willingness to travel internationally, work irregular hours, and adapt to the dynamic demands of esports events.
Security and Health and Safety qualifications appropriate for large-scale sporting events are expected, such as:
- Security Management Certifications – Such as Level 3 Award in Security Management or Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
- Health & Safety Qualifications – Including NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Crowd Safety & Event Security Training – Courses like NVQ Level 2 in Spectator Safety or SIA Door Supervisor License.
Safeguarding & Risk Management – Training in Duty to Care in Esports or safeguarding frameworks.
