Senior Exploration Geologist – Africa & Middle East Exploration
Position Description

The Barrick Africa & Middle East Exploration Team is proud to be home to leading technical experts. It combines the resources of a global, multibillion-dollar company with local, discovery-driven teams operating in many of the most prospective, world-class Au and Cu exploration districts.

We are seeking a Senior Exploration Geologist to join our team within operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in partnership with Ma’aden. The successful applicant will explore world‑class gold districts, design and implement exploration programs, and contribute to Barrick’s growth by discovering economically viable gold and copper deposits.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a strong contribution to Barrick’s safety culture and programs while encouraging and ensuring others do the same.
  • Plan, supervise and execute exploration field activities, including drilling, trenching, mapping, geophysics and geochemistry.
  • Compile, clean and analyse data to generate, develop and assess exploration targets.
  • Collaborate with a technically skilled team to deliver Barrick’s exploration strategy and growth ambitions.
  • Lead exploration and geological best practice to deliver robust and high-quality geological target models.
  • Develop regional, camp and target‑scale geological models, understanding lithology, stratigraphy, structure, alteration and mineralisation.
  • Support Barrick’s growth strategy by leading or contributing to competitor project due diligence reviews, including technical, financial and legislative considerations.
  • Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary projects, including resources, mining, social and legal departments.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly quality reports to senior management in the form of presentations and reports.
  • Mentor and develop exploration skills within the local geological team.
  • Design and implement Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Monitor QA/QC procedures and ensure the integrity of all project datasets.
  • Be prepared to travel extensively to field offices and project areas on a FIFO roster.
Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology / Geoscience from a recognized institution.
  • Advanced Degree (MSc / PhD) will be viewed favourably.
Experience and Skills Requirements
  • At least 8 years’ experience in greenfield / brownfield exploration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, community and environment.
  • Experience in VMS and/or orogenic, structurally controlled gold deposits; exposure to Arabian‑Nubian Shield geology viewed favourably.
  • Exposure to world‑class exploration districts and Tier 1 ore bodies, with a track record of discovery seen advantageously.
  • Firm understanding and recognition of mineralisation models and geological processes.
  • Geological, geophysical and geochemical interpretive and integration skills.
  • Self‑motivated and discovery‑driven, with a focus on leadership.
  • Displayed ability to work within a high‑performing multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in GIS and 3D geological modelling software; experience with ArcGIS, Leapfrog Geo, Micromine, ioGAS is an asset.
  • Ability to deliver concise technical and business‑focused presentations and reports to a broad audience.
  • Good communication and administration skills.
  • Continued professional development, technical training and membership of professional organisations.
  • Europe or Africa / Middle East based candidates are preferred.
