Job Overview
The Quality Manager oversees the organization’s Quality Management System to meet required quality and safety standards. The role manages daily quality operations, supervises QC teams, handles food testing, and drives continuous improvement. This position also leads audits, investigates complaints, ensures proper documentation and traceability, and collaborates with other departments to maintain consistent product quality across the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, customer, and internal quality and safety standards (e.g., ISO, HACCP, GMP).
- Conduct regular facility inspections and internal audits to verify process adherence and identify gaps.
- Supervise QA/QC teams; provide coaching, performance feedback, and technical guidance.
- Develop, review, and update SOPs, policies, quality manuals, and checklists.
- Plan and manage testing for raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods, including microbiological, chemical, and sensory evaluations.
- Analyze product testing results, initiate corrective actions, and approve/reject batches accordingly.
- Ensure proper traceability systems are in place and functioning across the supply chain.
- Lead investigations related to customer complaints, deviations, and non-conformities; conduct root cause analysis and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Manage and track Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), ensuring timely closure and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with procurement, production, maintenance, logistics, and other departments to maintain consistent product quality.
- Oversee supplier qualification, performance monitoring, and compliance with quality requirements.
- Coordinate with external service providers (pest control, sanitation, calibration, lab testing) to ensure timely and effective service delivery.
- Verify documentation accuracy, including quality logs, checklists, monitoring forms, and digital records.
- Prepare for regulatory inspections and support internal, customer, and third-party audits.
- Deliver quality and food safety training programs, including refresher courses and competency assessments.
- Monitor facility hygiene, cleaning activities, and sanitation programs; provide guidance to cleaning and sanitation teams.
- Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and verification of critical equipment used in quality monitoring.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives and quality enhancement projects across the organization.
- Prepare periodic quality performance reports for management review and decision-making.
- Support risk assessments, trend analysis, and preventive planning to mitigate potential quality issues.
- Promote a culture of quality awareness and operational excellence throughout the organization.
Other Duties
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the company from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or related field.
- 5+ years of QA/QC experience in the food manufacturing or food service industry.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, and food safety regulations.
- HACCP and food safety certifications (PIC or equivalent).
- Experience with product testing, QMS documentation, traceability, and CAPA management.
- Familiarity with hygiene, sanitation, pest control, and supplier quality processes.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
