Job Purpose

Lead and oversee the delivery of high-quality, standards-compliant EMTP power system studies within DAR Engineering’s Power System Studies section, ensuring technical excellence, optimal resource utilization, and effective client engagement aligned with business objectives. Collaborate closely with the Department Manager on tenders and business development initiatives to support growth and strategic positioning.

Key Responsibilities/Deliverables
  • Ensure performance alignment with directions given by the department management
  • Contribute to strategic planning and execution initiatives aligned with the objectives of the Energy Business Unit
  • Execute EMTP studies for switching surges, TRV, insulation coordination, cable energization, lightning impacts, RTDS Testing etc.
  • Use tools like PSCAD, EMTP-RV, ATP and RSCAD to perform transient simulations
  • Develop simulation methodologies, validate against vendor specs or field data
  • Approve final reports and ensure output meet internal and client quality standards
  • Plan and track workload, schedule, and resource utilization, reporting to the Power System Study Manager.
  • Support monthly progress reporting, budget tracking, and timely invoicing with corrective actions on budget variances.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and subcontractors to ensure smooth collaboration and meet assigned scope objectives.
  • Assist Power System Study Manager in subcontractor/subconsultant evaluations and project milestone delivery.
  • Coordinate across multidisciplinary teams to ensure integration of study outcomes with design deliverables and engineering functions.
  • Work with OEMs, EPCs, and utilities to gather data, present results, and finalize recommendations
  • Represent DAR Engineering in client workshops and technical reviews
  • Develop technical proposals, resource estimates, and bid documentation in coordination with the Tender Department.
  • Review technical submissions prepared by engineers for bidding and execution stages.
  • Implement QMS across all stages of design development
  • Align section output with standards and directives from the Power System Studies Manager
  • Promote knowledge-sharing of EMTP-specific skills across the team
  • Direct EMTP study engineers in simulation planning, execution, and delivery
  • Encourage a culture of accountability, technical accuracy, and development within the team
Qualifications and Experience
  • Overall experience of 18 years with 13 to 15 years of relevant experience in power system transient studies using EMTP tools (PSCAD, EMTP-RV, ATP, RSCAD).
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience managing high-performance simulation teams.
  • Deep knowledge of electromagnetic transients, insulation coordination, switching surge analysis, model validation and RTDS Hardware in the loop (HIL) Testing.
  • Exposure or hands on experience in RTDS.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Masters is preferable. Doctorate is an added advantage.
