Qualification
- Post‑Graduation in Power Systems Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Renewable Energy (MTech/ME)
- Ph.D. in Power Systems is an added advantage
Experience
Minimum 10–12 professional years in Power System Studies; at least 5 years as a lead Power System Analyst with hands‑on experience in renewable energy studies, industrial power system studies, focusing on relay coordination and arc flash hazard analysis.
Criteria
- Lead position in power system studies and grid integration studies for renewable power plants.
- Profound knowledge of renewable generation (solar PV inverters, wind energy systems, BESS), HVDC, FACTS (STATCOM, SVC, SCG).
- Hands‑on experience with PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, Dig SILENT and delivery of studies using these tools.

Must possess skills for performing the following studies
- Insulation coordination studies – cable, transformer, reactor energization, TRV, lightning strike studies, very fast transient over‑voltage (GIS) using PSCD or similar, switching study, power oscillation damping, sub‑synchronous resonance study.
- Ferro‑resonance studies associated with transformer, EHV cable.
- Secondary arc current extinction study for successful auto‑reclosure.
- Selection of surge arrester duty such as residual voltage, energy level.
- Grid integration.
- Model development and validation of OEM dynamic models, testing, and vendor issue resolution.
- Transient and steady‑state stability studies, voltage stability, harmonic studies, power quality, LVRT and fault ride‑through studies, reactive power compensation (filter sizing).
- Contingency analysis for designing grid components.
- Benchmarking studies of PSSE and PSCAD models for renewable power plants.
- User‑defined model preparation in PSSE using FORTRAN/FLECS coding.
- Python code automation for PSSE/PSCAD activities.
- Preparation of high‑quality study reports and review of submitted reports.
- Client‑facing discussions of reports and obtaining sign‑off.

Renewables
- Load flow studies to assess overloading elements in the network as per renewable energy systems capacity addition plans/scenarios.
- Identification of reactive power elements required under multiple cases for RES capacity addition plans/scenarios.
- Knowledge of modelling renewable energy sources (solar, BESS, wind).
- Assessment of operational challenges posed by different RES technologies – solar, wind.
- Verification of grid code compliance before energization of power plants under relevant operating scenarios, including static, dynamic, transient stability, control interaction, and power quality analysis.

- Motor acceleration and re‑acceleration studies as per process requirements for motor grouping.
- Short circuit analysis and sizing of switchgear and circuit breaker.
- Protection philosophy suggestions and relay coordination according to international standards/best practices.
- Arc flash analysis as per international standards.
Preferred Skills
- Design of power generation mix for microgrid and battery storage systems using software like HOMER, PLEXOS.
- Protection relay selection and coordination studies – over‑current/earth fault, unit protection, distance protection, motor protection, generator protection, grid tie‑in.
- Modelling of phase‑shifting transformer.
- Experience handling customers and utilities/off‑takers for approval of grid impact studies.
- HVDC, STATCOM projects including electromagnetic compatibility studies.
General
- Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, DEP and other industrial standards.
- Detailed analysis of available technological solutions for system studies.
- Ability to assume typical input data parameters for each study based on past experience when actual data are not available.
- Knowledge and interpretation of country‑specific grid codes (Middle East preferred).
- Capability to provide optimization possibilities aligned with grid code requirements.
- Identification of issues/challenges in grid integration and suggestion of solutions.
