Job description

The Pipeline Engineer will be responsible for the engineering, design, and integrity management of onshore and offshore pipeline systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant pipeline solutions across the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have solid experience with FEED, detailed design, and construction support of hydrocarbon pipelines within regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform design and analysis of pipelines (liquid, gas, multiphase), including route selection, wall thickness calculations, stability, stress analysis, and expansion studies.

  • Prepare and review key deliverables, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), alignment sheets, material specifications, route maps, stress reports, and pipeline profiles.

  • Conduct hydraulic simulations and flow assurance studies (steady-state and transient).

  • Oversee design compliance with industry codes and standards (API, ASME, DNV, ISO, CSA).

  • Provide technical support across all project phases, from concept selection and FEED to detailed design, procurement, and commissioning.

  • Interface with geotechnical, civil, structural, and mechanical engineering disciplines to ensure alignment and integration.

  • Manage risk assessments including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and integrity assessments (ILI, hydrotesting, etc.).

  • Support construction, installation, and commissioning teams on-site, and address technical queries or deviations from design.

  • Collaborate with procurement to specify pipeline materials, coatings, and valves.

  • Contribute to the development of cost estimates, project schedules, and risk registers.

  • Ensure documentation is accurate and aligned with project, client, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline (Master’s degree is advantageous).

  • Professional Engineering Registration (PE, CEng, or equivalent) preferred.

  • 5–10+ years of pipeline engineering experience within the oil and gas industry.

  • Demonstrated experience in onshore and/or subsea pipeline systems.

  • Experience working within FEED, EPC/EPCM, and brownfield project environments.

Skills and Competencies
  • Strong working knowledge of pipeline design codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.4/8, API 5L, DNVGL-ST-F101, CSA Z662).

  • Proficiency in pipeline design software (e.g., CAESAR II, AutoPIPE, Pipesim, PIPESYS, PIPEFLO, ROSEN, or equivalent).

  • Understanding of corrosion control, cathodic protection, and pipeline coating systems.

  • Experience in stress and flexibility analysis, slope stability, road crossings, and HDD techniques.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in high-pressure project environments.

  • Effective communication, coordination, and leadership abilities.

Preferred Experience
  • Offshore pipeline design experience (e.g., S-lay, J-lay, reel-lay methods).

  • Knowledge of intelligent pigging, ILI data interpretation, and pipeline integrity management systems (PIMS).

  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS and route selection tools.

  • Familiarity with multi-disciplinary EPC projects and international teams.
