JOB SUMMARY

As a Nephrology Assistant Consultant, you will work under a senior consultant to provide and supervise care for patients with kidney diseases, including performing diagnostic procedures, managing chronic kidney disease and dialysis, and participating in research and education. They are typically physicians with specialized training in internal medicine and nephrology, providing both inpatient and outpatient care while adhering to hospital policies.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To provide high-standard care to patients with renal disease and its sequelae in the Division of Nephrology, within the Department of Medicine under the supervision of a Consultant(s)/Associate Consultant Nephrologist.
  • To provide inpatient care for the nephrology patients admitted to the hospital under the name of the Consultant with whom he/she works. This inpatient care would involve daily rounds on all patients assigned to the general nephrology or the renal transplantation service. Part of the inpatient nephrology care would also relate to the supervision of the medical residents rotating in Nephrology and the nephrology fellows. The assistant consultant is also expected to be obliged by the organizational, departmental, and divisional regulations which pertain to inpatient care.
  • To participate in the delivery of health care to all Nephrology patients in the ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a Consultant/Associate Consultant. This participation would include caring for patients attending the regular Nephrology and Renal Transplantation ambulatory services and for patients attending the ambulatory hemo- or peritoneal dialysis programs under the direct supervision of a Consultant/Associate Consultant Nephrologist.
  • To provide, under the direct supervision of the Consultant/Associate Consultant Nephrologist, consultation service to other divisions within the Department, and other departments within the hospital during the regular working and the on-call hours. The educational component of this consultation services to the staff in other services should also be valued during daily work.
  • To perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic interventions and procedures to the renal patients for which he/she is granted specific privileges based on his/her training, qualifications and experience according to the specific privileging conditions approved by the Department and the organization.
  • To participate in the on-call coverage of the nephrology service in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Division of Nephrology.
  • To attend all the clinical, educational, and patient welfare meetings of the Division of Nephrology as established by the division. Attendance of the general activities of the Department of Medicine is also considered an important component of the job of the assistant consultant in Nephrology.
  • To participate in scientific research relevant to renal diseases, contribute into the division and department educational activities and post-graduate training programs, and to serve in committees as directed by the Head, Division of Nephrology, Department Chairman or the Executive Management of the organization.
  • To optimally utilize resources, show continuous evidence of self-development and participate in Quality Improvement program of the Division of Nephrology and the Department of Medicine.
  • To adhere to all rules and regulations of the Division, the Department, and the organization and to comply with all the APPS and IPPs.
  • To perform other relevant duties and tasks as directed by the Head of Nephrology or the Chairman of the Department of Medicine.
  • To comply with all the professional and ethical standards and express adherence to the Medical Staff By-laws of the organization.
  • To show the expected respect, at all times, to patients, their families, colleagues, subordinates and all other members of the healthcare team.
  • Perform other job related duties.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Graduate from a medical school of good standing.
  • Completion of required period of training in nephrology.
  • Board certification in the relevant medical nephrology is typically required or equivalent, preferably from Arab, Jordanian, or Egyptian institutions.
  • Membership and/or Fellowship or their equivalent and fulfilling the criteria for the consultant as required.
  • A certificate recognized by the Saudi commission is a must.
  • Dataflow is a must.
Professional Experience
  • Min. 5 years Post Board/Fellowship in nephrology.
  • A registered member of the Saudi Board Council.
Language
  • Proficiency in English; additional proficiency in Arabic may be beneficial.
