Job description and responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including psychological, social, and medical histories.
  • Evaluate mental status through interviews and standardized assessment tools.
  • Collaborate with patients and multi-disciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans.
  • Set measurable, achievable goals and regularly review and update care plans.
  • Provide individual and group therapy sessions based on evidence‑based practices.
  • Utilize therapeutic communication techniques to build rapport and trust with patients.
  • Administer medications as prescribed and monitor for side effects and therapeutic effectiveness.
  • Educate patients and families about medications, their purposes, and potential side effects.
  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies, providing immediate care and stabilization.
  • Implement de‑escalation techniques and safety protocols to manage high‑risk situations.
  • Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, coping strategies, and available resources.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups to enhance understanding of mental health issues.
  • Regularly monitor patient progress and document changes in behavior, symptoms, and response to treatments.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic care.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss patient cases and coordinate care efforts.
  • Advocate for patients rights and needs within the healthcare system.
  • Support patients in accessing community resources and services.
  • Stay updated on best practices, research, and advancements in mental health nursing.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
