Job Purpose
To provide advanced process engineering expertise, leadership, and technical guidance to ensure safe, reliable, and optimized plant processes in both dimensions design and operation. The Lead Engineer, Process supports strategic decision-making, leads complex studies and improvement initiatives and value creation during the value engineering process, and ensures compliance with Ma’aden standards, regulations, and best engineering practices.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead process engineering activities, ensuring technical excellence and adherence to Ma’aden standards and industry codes.
- Develop, review, and approve process design documents such as PFDs, P&IDs, HMBs, equipment sizing, and process simulations.
- Provide troubleshooting and technical support to challenge technology provider to resolve process performance issues and improve plant reliability and efficiency.
- Lead HAZOP, SIL, and other process safety reviews; ensure implementation of recommendations.
- Manage and execute process optimization initiatives to improve throughput, energy efficiency, product quality, and cost effectiveness in all project stages.
- Oversee and mentor junior process engineers; provide technical coaching and support.
- Collaborate with Business unit team, and Projects teams to ensure alignment and safe execution of activities.
- Support project execution: scope development, FEED reviews, technical evaluations, commissioning, and startup assistance.
- Ensure process safety compliance and champion continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Prepare and review technical reports, studies, and presentations for management decision-making.
- Contribute to strategic planning for capacity expansion, debottlenecking, and technology upgrades.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or Process Engineering (master’s degree preferred).
- Professional Engineering certification or equivalent is an advantage.
Minimum Experience
- 5–12 years of relevant process engineering experience in mining, metals, petrochemical, or related heavy industrial operations.
- Demonstrated experience in process design, troubleshooting, and process safety management.
- Experience in leading technical teams and managing engineering deliverables.

- Strong proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus).
- Excellent knowledge of PFDs, P&IDs, process calculations, relief valve sizing, mass/energy balances.
- Solid understanding of process safety principles (HAZOP, LOPA, SIL).
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers.
- Strong project management and coordination capabilities.
