Job Purpose
To provide advanced mechanical engineering expertise, leadership, and technical direction to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient and fit for purpose design. The Lead Engineer, Mechanical leads complex engineering analyses, supports the project team and client in to drives reliability improvements, and ensures compliance with Ma’aden standards, regulatory requirements, and global mechanical engineering best practices in all stages of the project.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead and supervise mechanical engineering activities, ensuring adherence to Ma’aden engineering standards and high technical quality.
- Develop, review, and approve mechanical engineering deliverables such as equipment specifications, datasheets, BOMs, mechanical drawings, and design calculations.
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting support for mechanical equipment failures, chronic issues, and performance deviations in all project’s stages.
- Lead reliability initiatives including root cause analysis (RCA), bad-actor elimination, and long-term asset improvement programs.
- Conduct and lead mechanical integrity, fitness-for-service evaluations, and risk-based inspection (RBI) studies.
- Oversee maintenance strategies for critical rotating and static equipment to ensure optimal performance and extended equipment life.
- Support project development and execution including scope definition, design reviews, technical evaluations, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and startup.
- Mentor and coach junior mechanical engineers to build technical capability within the team.
- Ensure mechanical engineering compliance with relevant codes and standards (API, ASME, ISO, ASTM, etc.)
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, Projects, and HSE to ensure safe and efficient execution of mechanical-related activities.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, recommendations, and engineering assessments for management decision-making.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Professional Engineering registration/certification (or progress toward it) is beneficial.
Minimum Experience:
- 5–12 years of mechanical engineering experience in mining, metals, petrochemical, power, or heavy industrial plants.
- Strong experience in rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines) and static equipment (vessels, heat exchangers, piping systems).
- Proven experience leading engineering teams or functioning as a senior technical authority.

- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
