Hauptaufgaben

As a Language Specialist, you will serve as the main translator / interpreter at the Directorate of Mission Relations working with a variety of linguistic support programs within the directorate and provide expert translating and interpreting services to high-ranking officials within and outside the USMTM organizational structure. You will :

  • Translate incoming and outgoing written documents transmitted between Senior leaders at Ministry of Defense and Chief USMTM or Staff. This responsibility includes the translation of letters, reports, committee notes, and other documents that address strategic and operational direction for USMTM to achieve U.S. security assistance goals or provide assistance / information.
  • Provide simultaneous, formal verbal interpretations in both directions with Saudi Arabian officials during conferences, training and / or visits of U.S. Delegations to MOD.
  • Assist all USMTM Directorates on Al Nakia Compound and their staff in solving sensitive situations and in overcoming obstacles when dealing with Saudi Arabian Government officials.
  • Advise the Directorates on the suitability, proper timing and methods of approach on subject problems to be discussed with senior officials.
  • In the absence of Mission Relations Liaison Officer, provide extensive and comprehensive protocol support for USMTM VIP visits with the Saudi Arabian officials.
Qualifikationsanforderungen

In order to receive consideration for this position, candidates must meet the education and / or the specialized experience requirement, as defined in the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards. Additionally, the quality of the experience must clearly demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.

  • Applicants will be evaluated to ensure experience and / or education meet the qualifications requirements defined in the Multi-National Recruitment System (MNRS) vacancy announcement.
  • Quality of experience relates to how closely or to what extent an applicant's background and recent experience, education, and training are relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the position. Applicants must have the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies to successfully perform the work of the position at the appropriate level.
  • Time in Grade Requirement : Applicants who have held a DOD Third State Worker T1 position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction. Proof will be required before you can be referred to Management.
  • Time in Grade Restriction : Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).
  • For a T1-11 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the T1-09.
  • For a T1-12 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the T1-11.
EXPERIENCE :

The experience described in your application will be evaluated and screened for the basic qualification requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.

To qualify for T1-11, the applicant must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the T1-09 (or equivalent) level. Specialized experience for this position is defined as :

  • Performing work that requires communicating in written and spoken Arabic and English; and
  • Performing written and verbal translations from and into English and Arabic; and
  • Translating, drafting and proofreading documents from and into English and Arabic.

To qualify for T1-12, the applicant must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the T1-11 (or equivalent) level. Specialized experience for this position is defined as :

  • Performing simultaneous interpretations from and into English and Arabic during meetings, lectures, conferences and seminars; and
  • Translating complex correspondence, reports, materials related to military subjects from and into English and Arabic.

The related work experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security background check and MOD Clearance. Continued employment in this position is subject to successful completion of background security investigations and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet and maintain these requirements may be grounds for termination.
  • A valid Saudi Arabian driver’s license is required. The selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a government’s driving license.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English and Arabic fluently. Please list ALL your language skills in your MNRS profile under "Applicant Language Proficiencies". Only these will be taken into consideration to rate your application.
  • Must be able to pass the English Proficiency Test.
GENERAL INFORMATION :
  • 90-day trial period may be required.
  • Work week in Saudi Arabia is Sunday through Thursday.

  • Management may select at any of the grade levels announced.
