Job Title: Inspection Engineer

Job Description

The Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all welding operations comply with applicable industry standards, specifications, and regulations. This role involves inspecting welding processes and finished welds to verify their quality and integrity. The inspector will evaluate welding procedures, assess the qualifications of welders, and conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) as necessary. The Welding Inspector will also document and report findings, maintain inspection records, and collaborate with engineering and production teams to address any quality issues that may arise during the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct visual inspections of welds and welding procedures to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Perform non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, magnetic particle testing, or dye penetrant testing.
  • Review and approve welding procedures and welder qualifications.
  • Identify and document any defects or non-conformities and work with relevant teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain detailed inspection reports and records of weld inspections.
  • Stay updated on welding standards, codes, and industry practices.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and processes.
  • Familiarity with welding codes and standards such as AWS, ASME, and API.
  • Proficient in non-destructive testing methods and techniques.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Tools Required

  • Inspection equipment (micrometers, calipers, etc.)
  • Non-destructive testing equipment (ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle, dye penetrant)
  • Welding procedure specifications and codes (AWS, ASME, etc.)
  • Computer software for documentation and reporting (Microsoft Office, inspection management software)
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in welding environments.
