Job description
Basic Function:
  • Develops, maintains, and monitors the Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) program to ensure continuous safety improvements.
  • Conducts detailed analyses of exceedances, anomalies, and safety events using FDM software tools.
  • Coordinates with flight operations, safety, and maintenance departments to resolve findings from FDM reports.
  • Prepares and presents monthly FDM safety reports and trends to the Safety Review Board (SRB) and senior management.
  • Maintains data integrity and confidentiality in compliance with organizational policies and GACA/ICAO standards.
  • Assists in the development and improvement of safety performance indicators and predictive safety tools.
  • Provides training and support to flight crews on FDM concepts, exceedance definitions, and the impact on safety.
  • Supports event investigation and FOQA/FDM analysis during safety investigations and risk assessments.
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Manages all aspects of the FDM program, including system configuration, parameter setting, flight data acquisition, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Tracks trends, identifies risk areas, and collaborates with operational departments to recommend and implement safety enhancements.
  • Performs statistical and graphical analysis of flight data, detects potential threats, and classifies events such as unstable approaches, high-speed exceedances, hard landings, and configuration deviations. Prepares in-depth reports and provides recommendations for corrective action.
  • Facilitates regular review meetings to discuss FDM findings, initiates safety investigations when necessary, and ensures closure of safety recommendations. Acts as a liaison between pilots, engineering, and quality assurance to ensure corrective actions are feasible and effective.
  • Generates executive-level dashboards, summary reports, and statistical overviews of flight safety performance indicators. Communicates key findings clearly and professionally, enabling informed safety-related decisions by top management.
  • Implements robust data handling protocols, ensures secure storage of sensitive flight data, and restricts access to authorized personnel only. Ensures that de-identification of flight data is in place in accordance with 'just culture' principles.
  • Works with safety managers to design measurable performance metrics based on FDM trends. Integrates predictive analytics to identify precursors to safety incidents, enabling preemptive intervention.
  • Delivers recurrent FDM awareness training sessions to pilots and operations staff. Clarifies the intent and implications of monitored events, reinforces safety behavior, and promotes voluntary participation and transparency.
  • Contributes to root cause analysis by providing reconstructed flight profiles and event timelines. Collaborates with investigation teams to validate factual data and contribute technical insight during safety reviews.
Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Safety, Aeronautical Engineering, or related field.

Knowledge and Experience:

Minimum 3 years of aviation safety or FDM/FOQA experience. Proficiency in FDM software (e.g., Flightscape, GE/CFM Insight or FOQA, or similar).

License and Certificates:

Preferred: Commercial Pilot License (CPL) or Aircraft Maintenance License (AML).
