Job description

Job Purpose

The Energy Monitor is responsible for tracking, analyzing, and reporting on energy usage throughout the project. This role ensures that energy consumption aligns with the project’s sustainability targets, and works to identify opportunities for energy conservation and efficiency. The Energy Monitor will collaborate with the project team, contractors, and stakeholders to reduce energy consumption, optimize energy usage, and support the achievement of energy-related sustainability certifications.

Key Responsibilities

Energy Usage Monitoring

• Track and record the project’s energy consumption across all phases (design, construction, and operation).
• Collect and analyze energy data, identifying patterns and areas for potential improvement.
• Ensure energy meters and monitoring equipment are correctly installed and calibrated.

Energy Efficiency Optimization

• Work closely with the Sustainability Manager and other teams to identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements in the project.
• Suggest and implement strategies to reduce energy use and increase efficiency in energy-consuming activities.
• Monitor the implementation of energy-efficient technologies, such as LED lighting, energy-efficient HVAC systems, and renewable energy sources.

Reporting and Documentation

• Prepare regular energy performance reports for the project management team and stakeholders.
• Document and track energy-saving initiatives, and present energy performance data in an accessible format.
• Ensure that all energy usage data is correctly recorded for certification and compliance purposes (e.g., LEED, ISO 50001).

Energy Compliance and Certification

• Ensure that the project meets or exceeds energy-related standards and certifications, such as LEED or ISO 50001.
• Assist in preparing documentation for energy audits and certification processes.
• Ensure compliance with local energy regulations and standards.

Collaboration with Contractors and Teams

• Coordinate with contractors and project teams to ensure that energy-efficient practices are being followed during construction and operation.
• Provide training and support to staff on energy-saving practices and the importance of energy efficiency.
• Advise on energy-efficient materials, systems, and equipment for the project.

Energy Conservation Initiatives

• Develop and implement energy conservation initiatives, such as optimizing the use of lighting, heating, and cooling.
• Identify energy-intensive activities and propose alternative solutions to reduce consumption.
• Track and report on the success of energy-saving measures.

Sustainability Targets Support

• Assist in setting and achieving energy-related sustainability targets, ensuring that the project contributes to the overall sustainability goals.
• Work with the Sustainability Manager to evaluate energy usage against sustainability benchmarks and project goals.

Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
• Additional certifications in energy management (e.g., ISO 50001) are a plus.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in energy monitoring, energy management, or a similar role.
• Experience with energy management systems, data analysis, and energy performance reporting.
• Familiarity with sustainability standards, energy certifications (e.g., LEED, ISO 50001), and energy efficiency practices.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and report energy data.
• Knowledge of energy management systems, building systems, and energy-efficient technologies.
• Ability to work effectively with multiple teams and stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Required Certifications and Accreditations

Energy Management and Sustainability Certifications

• WELL AP – Certification for building wellness, which includes energy management aspects.
