Job Purpose
Assist Operations Manager in managing day to day operations through a team of site-based shift engineers and operators. Develop short- and long-term operation strategy for the plant and prepare development plans. Oversee plant operation safely and efficiently according to utility practice, dispatch instructions, OEM guidelines, legal, environmental and contractual requirements.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day operational activities with finance, accounting, administration, maintenance and HSE departments.
- Prepare the operations budget and ensure its efficient utilisation.
- Review and update operational procedures and work instructions regularly.
- Carry out internal audits for routine operational activities and permit‑to‑work system.
- Prepare and implement the commercial & operational reporting calendar.
Key Accountabilities
- Under guidance of Operations Manager, coordinate all day‑to‑day operation activities safely and efficiently.
- Report events, conduct root cause analysis, prepare action plans, lessons learned and share with related departments.
- Determine and schedule resources for planned and unplanned outages operation activity; manage shift schedules, staff leave plans and update attendance.
- Monitor and report operation KPIs and objectives to the Operations Manager.
- Conduct risk assessments for operational activities collaboratively with operations team.
- Prepare training & development programmes for new and existing operational staff and collaborate with HR for training resources.
- Support Performance Engineer in implementing performance management processes within the operations teams.
Qualifications
- Accredited Engineering degree in Electrical or Mechanical disciplines.
- At least 10 years of experience in the operation of a large combined cycle power plant, with at least five years as Shift Charge Engineer/Shift Manager.
- Experience with GE Frame‑7 or Frame‑9 gas turbines and GE steam turbines preferred.
Skills – Technical & Commercial
- Strong understanding of Electrical machines, protections, gas and steam turbine fundamentals, HRSG, and plant performance monitoring.
- Proficient in event reporting, root cause analysis and permit‑to‑work systems.
- Knowledge of commercial aspects of Power Purchase Agreements and technical limits.
- Experience with Process Safety and Health & Safety Management Systems, Environmental Management System and Computerised Maintenance Management System.
- Budget control and reporting; interaction with purchasing, finance, maintenance, administration and HR.
