Summary
Provides patient care as assigned by performing dental assisting duties using the “4-Handed Dentistry” technique in clinical practice. Prepares patients and assists Dentists for all clinical procedures in accordance with the established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepares dental operatory for each procedure using aseptic techniques. Utilizes Hospital accepted infectioncontrol, cross contamination, disinfection, sterilization, and hand washing procedures.
- Monitors daily schedule for cancelations, no shows, and arrival times for best slot utilization.
- Escorts patient to treatment rooms. Prepares patient for dental treatment.
- Reviews annually updated medical and dental history. Recognizes health conditions and medications that impact patient care. Identifies patients at risk for medical emergency and appropriately manages pre-meds and lab-work.
- Provides accurate, consistent, and complete documentation of dental treatment plans, sequence, periodontal charting, dental histories, treatment rendered, referrals, conditions, and disease diagnosis by the dentist and ensure confidentiality.
- Monitors daily schedule of assigned clinic, dental Satellite clinic, KFSHR-CCC, family medicine, etc. and the OR and ensures clinic flow is maintained.
- Practices 4-Handed dentistry techniques while assisting dentist during general or specialities procedures. Performs specific procedures and expanded functions as qualified for and required in specialized clinics.
- Maintains instruments and stock levels of supplies in operatory.
- Obtains, develops, mounts, and stores intraoral and extra oral diagnostic quality dental radiographs as ordered by Dentist. Recognizes anatomical anomalies. Retrieves and files dental x-ray files, and take quality x-ray, proper documentation throw R4 /ICIS.
- Prepares local anaesthetic injections and topical anaesthetic gel.
- Enters clinical and statistical data into the computer as required.
- Maintains adequate supplies in the operatory. Sharps and recognizes when to correctly dispose hand instruments. Performs daily and weekly maintenance of equipment and headpieces.
- Collects, enters, and analyses hygienestatistical data to document and study past hygiene practices.
- Participates in on-call roster, as required.
- Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.
- Participates in self and other’s education, training, and development, as applicable.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelor’s or Associate Degree/Diploma in Dental Assistance is required.
Experience Required
- Grade 07: One (1) year of related experience with Bachelor’s or two (2) years with Associate Degree/Diploma is required.
- Grade 08:
- Four (4) years as Dental Assistant II at KFSHRC.
- Average of annual performance appraisal at least (3.5) for the last four (4) years.
- Fifty (50) hours of cumulative continued medical education [CME].
Other Requirements (Certificates)
- Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required.
- Certified Dental Assistant Registry (CDA) from point of origin is required for eligible.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
