JOB SUMMARY

As Transfusion Medicine Consultant, you will have extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of transfusion medicine, including blood banking, apheresis, and cellular therapy. This role involves overseeing the collection, testing, processing, and transfusion of blood and blood components, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety. The transfusion medicine consultant will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement protocols and guidelines, provide education and training, and participate in research and quality improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing complex transfusion cases, providing consultation services, and staying current with advancements in transfusion medicine. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient-centered care are essential for this role.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the collection, testing, processing, and transfusion of blood and blood components.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines.
  • Develop and implement transfusion protocols and guidelines.
  • Provide consultation services for complex transfusion cases.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide education and training to medical staff and students.
  • Manage and resolve transfusion-related complications.
  • Stay current with advancements in transfusion medicine.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
  • Participate in hospital committees and meetings.
  • Ensure the availability and safety of blood products.
  • Develop and implement policies for blood management.
  • Conduct audits and reviews of transfusion practices.
  • Provide expert advice on transfusion medicine to other departments.
  • Support the development of new transfusion therapies.
  • Monitor and report on transfusion outcomes.
  • Engage in public and professional education on transfusion medicine.
  • Advocate for patient safety and quality care in transfusion practices.
  • Collaborate with blood banks and external organizations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Graduate from a medical school of good standing.
  • Completion of required period of training in specialty and/or subspecialty.
  • Saudi Arab or American/European Board Certification or equivalent.
  • Irish, UK, Canadian, New Zealand or Australian/Diplome d’Etudes Specialises (DES)/ CIS French Board / Facharzt & Sub-Board/Fellowship with Min. 3-4 years experience post-Board/Fellowship or equivalent.
  • Membership and/or Fellowship status in America and/or Europe or their equivalent and fulfilling the criteria for the consultant as required.
  • A certificate recognized by the Saudi commission is a must.
  • Dataflow is a must.

Professional Experience

  • Min. 3-4 years Post-Board/Fellowship in specialty.
  • A registered member of the Saudi Board Council.

Language

  • Proficiency in English; additional proficiency in Arabic may be beneficial.

References

  • Positive professional references attesting to the candidate's skills and ethical conduct.
