Job description

Woodston Personnel are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Consultant in Pediatric Emergency Medicine to join our client’s hospital in Saudi Arabia. The Consultant will provide expert clinical leadership and high-quality care to children and adolescents presenting to the Emergency Department. The postholder will oversee the assessment, stabilization, and management of acute and life‑threatening illnesses and injuries in paediatric patients, ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate service delivery. The consultant will also contribute to education, service development, and clinical governance within the department.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide specialist clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of infants, children, and adolescents presenting to the emergency department.
• Lead the resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill or injured paediatric patients.
• Ensure timely and appropriate investigations, interventions, and referrals in accordance with current evidence‑based guidelines.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including paediatricians, surgeons, anaesthetists, and intensive care specialists.
• Supervise and support junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals in managing paediatric emergency cases.
• Provide on‑call and out‑of‑hours cover for the paediatric emergency department as required.
• Maintain meticulous documentation and ensure compliance with safeguarding procedures for children.
• Provide clinical leadership in the delivery and continuous improvement of paediatric emergency services.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols, pathways, and policies.
• Participate in strategic planning for departmental growth and integration with other paediatric and emergency services.
• Lead and support quality improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing patient safety and outcomes.
• Serve as a role model for professionalism, clinical excellence, and compassionate care.
• Teach and mentor medical students, residents, nursing staff, and allied professionals in paediatric emergency care.
• Participate in simulation‑based training and clinical skills development programs.
• Support continuing professional development (CPD) activities and encourage staff participation in learning opportunities. Contribute to regional or national educational programmes in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
• Participate in and, where possible, lead clinical research, audits, and service evaluations.
• Promote evidence‑based practice and contribute to publications or presentations in the field.

• Implement findings from audits and research into clinical practice.
• Ensure adherence to hospital policies, clinical governance frameworks, and child protection regulations.
• Participate in risk management, incident review, and morbidity and mortality meetings.
• Contribute to departmental performance reviews, workforce planning, and rota management.
• Maintain registration, appraisals, and revalidation with the relevant professional body.
