Job description

Amazon opened its virtual doors in 1995 and strives to be the world's most customer‑centric company, where customers can find and discover anything they might want to buy online.

The successful candidate for this position will be a key part of the Engineering Team and will be responsible for project and construction management of industrial development including new builds, retrofits, expansion, and program initiatives from site selection through contract execution.

Construction Managers are responsible for construction of new Fulfillment Centers (FCs), Sortation Centers (SCs), Delivery Stations (DSs), and auxiliary buildings that support those facilities, as well as renovations and tenant improvements at existing buildings. They also handle the implementation of the facility network infrastructure.

Construction Managers perform detailed deep‑dive reviews of job budgets and programs to identify and resolve discrepancies, including information in contractor bid packages. They partner with internal customers and external stakeholders such as consultants and contractors to earn trust and engage as a team to deliver projects efficiently.

The Construction Manager serves as Amazon's representative and direct point of interface with developers and general contractors, acting as the primary integrator between construction and other Amazon stakeholders responsible for equipping, furnishing, and operating our FCs. This opportunity combines construction engineering, planning, project management, facilities management, and contract management.

Would you like an opportunity to travel and work in multiple countries and cultures? The role will be based in Dubai, UAE with 40‑60% of time traveling either domestically or to other AMET countries.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for project management of new construction of Fulfillment Centers throughout the AMET region as well as renovations and capacity improvements within existing facilities.
  • Advise on the impact of changes in schedule, costs, and permitting.
  • Support construction scope review and development with internal technical teams and operational customers to facilitate engineering and design efforts on new and remodel projects.
  • Supervise multiple projects simultaneously, from relatively small renovations to large‑sized ($20M+) new facilities.
  • Work independently in the assigned regional area with minimal direction from leadership.
  • Prepare reports, specifications, technical analyses to fully define the design requirements, equipment and services required on capacity expansion and remodel projects.
  • Negotiate contracts and contract changes with developers and general contractors, and present formal documentation for approval when required.
  • Provide overall site management, coordination, planning, specification of business proposals, and coordination of subcontractors.
  • Assess project performance through key performance indicators for safety, quality, cost, schedule, and sustainability.
  • Partner with teams tasked with transition of base building management and oversight of all turnover documentation.
  • Review designs and ongoing construction for conformance to current building specifications.
  • Provide critical review of current design standards to identify value engineering and design enhancement opportunities for internal engineering and schematic design partners.
  • Receipt, review, and analysis of all proposed cost and time change requests as presented by external project teams.
  • Review and guide internally requested changes for validity, impact, and ensure timely and cost‑sensitive incorporation once approved.
  • Lead or assist in negotiations with regulatory bodies and Authority Having Jurisdiction entities as required.
  • Maintain positive, clear, concise, and transparent cross‑team communication for all aspects of project delivery.
A Day in the Life

Each day you will represent Amazon GES in ensuring the successful delivery of Amazon construction projects, while strategically improving its processes, health & safety, and sustainability performance. You will lead and mentor large cross‑functional teams as an expert resource to complete construction projects.

You will be the subject matter expert in your engineering field, providing clear guidance regarding technical solutions, their cost impact, and risk imposed on the project's safety and delivery.

Daily tasks may comprise site validation, due diligence, risk analysis, design management, contract and cost negotiations, and stakeholder management.

Great communication skills to front‑line and executive‑level managers are a must.
