Overview

As a Commis 1 – Cold Kitchen at Zama Zulu (a South African and South Asian themed restaurant in The Groves), you will support the Cold CDP in preparing vibrant cold dishes, salads, starters, dressings and more. This role offers growth toward a CDP-level position in a fast‑paced, culturally rich kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Cold CDP in preparing cold dishes, salads, starters, dressings and more.
  • Handle mise en place preparation – chopping vegetables, prepping fruits, making garnishes, organizing cold ingredients and preparing simple cold items.
  • Ensure all ingredients are fresh, well‑stocked and properly stored following hygiene standards.
  • Support cold dish plating during service, maintaining consistency, neatness and speed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and hygienic workstation at all times.
  • Practice proper food handling, labeling and FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
  • Learn and follow the presentation and flavour style of the restaurant inspired by African and Zulu cuisine.
  • Communicate clearly with chefs and team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Assist with cleaning tasks, stock rotation and inventory checks as required.
