Job description

Job Summary:

Responsible for translating engineering drawings, technical prints, and design specifications into accurate sheet metal flat patterns and optimized CAD/CAM nesting layouts. The role ensures that parts are correctly developed for manufacturing by applying accurate bend allowances and material parameters while maximizing sheet utilization and minimizing material scrap.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret engineering drawings, technical prints, and sheet metal design specifications.
  • Convert engineering designs into accurate 2D flat patterns suitable for sheet metal fabrication.
  • Apply appropriate bend allowances, bend deductions, K‑factors, and material thickness parameters.
  • Ensure flat patterns accurately reflect the final formed dimensions of the manufactured component.
  • Develop and optimize nesting layouts to achieve maximum material utilization and minimum scrap.
  • Select suitable sheet sizes, material types, thicknesses, and grain directions for nesting.
  • Optimize part positioning and spacing while considering cutting requirements and material constraints.
  • Prepare and verify CAD/CAM files for CNC laser, punching, and other sheet metal cutting processes.
  • Review flat patterns and nests for dimensional accuracy, manufacturability, and material efficiency.
  • Identify discrepancies between engineering drawings and manufacturability requirements and coordinate for correction.
  • Maintain accurate CAD/CAM files, nesting programs, and drawing revisions.
  • Continuously improve nesting efficiency and material yield to reduce raw material costs and production waste.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Technical Drafting, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
  • Technical Drafting, CAD, or Design certification is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in sheet metal CAD/CAM programming and nesting.
  • Strong experience in sheet metal flat pattern development and bend allowance calculations.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM and nesting software such as SolidWorks, SigmaNEST, Lantek, or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Good understanding of sheet metal materials, thicknesses, bending principles, and fabrication requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize material utilization and minimize scrap through efficient nesting.
