Overview
The Assistant Head Nurse supports the Head Nurse in managing nursing staff and overseeing daily operations within a healthcare unit or department. This role ensures high standards of patient care, assists in staff supervision, and helps maintain compliance with hospital protocols and health regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Nurse in planning, organizing, and supervising nursing services.
- Provide leadership and guidance to nursing staff during shifts.
- Monitor patient care standards and ensure safe, compassionate, and effective care.
- Help coordinate staff schedules, shift coverage, and workload distribution.
- Support in onboarding, training, and performance evaluation of nursing personnel.
- Address patient concerns and communicate effectively with patients and families.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, safety policies, and hospital procedures.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in line with hospital regulations.
- Coordinate with physicians and other healthcare professionals for patient care.
- Support inventory management of medical supplies and equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN); valid nursing license / registration.
- Minimum 35 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare practices, protocols, and patient care standards.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration is an advantage.
- Specialized training or certifications (e.g., BLS, ACLS, infection control).
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
