Armament Shop Supervisor

Job Purpose

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons. The Job Holder deputises for a senior company employee within the Typhoon Maintenance Organisation, responsible for the aspects of Armament Shop, compliance and continuous improvement while holding company line management responsibilities commensurate with the role, which includes providing functional direction and guidance, exercising duty of care, welfare, health & safety. To provide effective delivery of all activities as specified in the shop component repair plan and supporting Salam Project success against the Maintenance Support Service contracted Operational Readiness (OR) and Key Performance Measurements (KPM).

Outline Responsibility
  • Safety: Uphold a safety-first approach, implementing safety measures and guidelines to protect personnel, product and operations. Support and promote Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) and Product Safety & Environment (PS&E).
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to BAE Systems Operational Framework, Life Cycle Management (LCM) practices, Maintenance & Continuing Airworthiness (M&CA) Mandates, Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE), and Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Logistics Management Regulations (LMR) to meet the contractual obligations.
  • Support: Enhancing customer satisfaction in supporting maintenance, airworthiness, safety and continual improvement. Developing new ways to improve the customer experience or otherwise growing the maintenance organization as a whole. This includes highlighting potential new processes and procedures.
  • Continuous Improvements (CI): Strive for business excellence, by driving a culture of CI throughout the maintenance organization, encouraging innovative ideas and initiatives. Continuously seek opportunities to apply and adapt changes or improvements to best industry practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the maintenance processes and create a sustainable future.
Job Accountabilities
  • Accountable to their Primary Line Manager; however, they have direct access to Secondary Line Manager. This is to provide an independent route to address any issues within the AIMW maintenance environment.
  • Undertake review of maintenance and challenge current practices and identify potential capacity for improvements within the organisation.
  • Recognising any malpractice that could affect the airworthiness or safety of the assigned components or personnel within their area of responsibility and raising the issue/concern to the Senior Maintenance Manager.
  • Ensuring that the necessary manpower and facilities resource are available, in accordance with company policies to enable their organisations to perform their duties and any contractual obligations.
  • Monitor standards of the personnel within their organisation in order to identify any negative trends, non-conformities or motivational deficiencies.
  • Accountable and responsible for all person’s development reports within their direct and indirect line management, within their Area of Responsibility.
  • Providing a working environment of trust, where all employees of whom are professionals, each have a clear understanding of what standard of behaviour is considered acceptable or unacceptable, following the companies “Code of Conduct”.
  • Provide training, consolidation and counterpart development activities to the RSAF and BAE Systems personnel.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed within designated timeframes to support Forward Maintenance and SMU activities.
  • Maintain operational readiness of shop equipment in line with shop component repair plan and schedule necessary calibrations. Enhanced by ensuring the correct tooling, approved data is available. Raise appropriate media for deficiencies in approved data (e.g., TPRFs, TQs, etc.).
  • Ensure that all personnel undertaking maintenance in their area of responsibility are authorised.
  • Any damage or deficiencies to equipment and infrastructure, are reported and monitored using the correct media (e.g., IDR, MDR, CAR, SORT, 1400‑61, etc.).
  • Maintain an anti‑FOD surveillance and report potential Hazards, which is further enhanced by the regular oversight checks of the shop and the components in the shop.
  • Ensure all maintenance tasks are carried out and meet the highest quality standards, including recording of maintenance carried out on the airworthiness tool (ESS) to accurately reflect the work carried out, test results indications/ values, consumables and POL.
  • Conduct oversight checks to ensure high standards of shop husbandry.
  • Assist in updating the TTP131 spreadsheet to reflect any forecasted planning, highlight any deficiencies or delivery/ FDD issues with consumables & PPE at the earliest opportunity.
  • Ensure daily shop status is updated in a timely fashion to support the reporting to customer and company.
Recruitment Specification
Essential
  • A recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, or a technical apprenticeship, or suitable equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA.
  • Have a extensive proven post qualification practical maintenance experience within operational flying aircraft environment supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training OR substantial proven experience on same aircraft type.
  • Leadership skills and proven ability to supervise all levels of engineering personnel.
  • Hold 2nd signature.
  • The successful candidate, Saudi or Expatriate must obtain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level, prior to starting the new role or commencing employment in KSA, SCE membership must be maintained throughout their employment in this role.
Desirable
  • Thorough understanding of company processes and procedures.
  • Broad aerospace and defence company / industry knowledge.
  • Proven supervisory experience within the area of definition.
  • Have experience working knowledge of EASA part 145 & 147.
  • An understanding of RAF and /or RSAF engineering operating procedures.
  • A track record of meeting strict deadlines without compromising standards and quality.
  • Previous experience of delivering work place training.
  • An understanding of ESS or similar electronic based reporting system.
