Perform prescribed duties and responsibilities independently outlined in all levels up to and including level 3 for fascia tooling (hidden parting line and conventional) and trim type tooling (e.g., rockers, claddings, wheel flares, etc.).
Participate in and support Continuous Improvement and WCM initiatives.
Use standard library models to design tools that meet customer specifications.
Assist in the design of tooling at the direction of the Design Team Leader.
Manage single tool design projects when requested.
Collaborate with other design resources to confirm tool design concepts relative to part geometry.
Review tool designs produced by strategic partners and provide feedback to ensure they meet production facility expectations, supporting the global tooling initiative.
Work closely with estimating and program managers to develop new tooling and engineering change quotes.
Participate in benchmarking new tooling and equipment, providing accurate and timely feedback.
Analyze reports and department statistics.
Assist in implementing plans to control and maintain safety, quality, 5S, cost, and efficiency in assigned areas.
Manage engineering changes within design files, coordinating internally and with outsourcers.
Collaborate with the Design Team Leader to provide key date timing feedback for production scheduling.
Design water, boring mill, and 3D contour features, ensuring considerations for other design disciplines and manufacturing.
Conduct part feasibility studies for upcoming program parts, considering cooling, steel condition, draft, etc.
Interact effectively with all departments—Design, Machining, Build, Scheduling, and Management.
With supervision, conduct internal and external design reviews, document outcomes, and implement actions.
Work outside core hours as needed to meet department demands.
Travel for investigations, benchmarking, or training as required.
Maintain confidentiality and integrity.
Participate in risk assessments and develop action plans for process improvements.
Qualifications
Minimum completion of Grade 12 diploma.
College diploma or university degree in a relevant technical field, or equivalent experience.
Several years of experience as a Designer, preferably with injection mould experience.
Strong working knowledge of Siemens NX Mold Wizard for all facets of tool design.
Strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude.
Strategic thinker with problem-solving skills.
Results-oriented, able to work under pressure.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
