Data Governance Engineer

You will be responsible for scaling, automation, and optimizing HBX data governance policies and processes across the entire data lifecycle.

This role is a key contributor to delivering and successfully executing the Data Governance Roadmap. You will be actively involved in creating the company's data quality foundations by developing and delivering technical solutions related to:

• Data Governance & Management policies as code
• Automatic Data Observability and Quality metrics implementation
• Effective and efficient Metadata Management & Data Catalogue
• Data Policies and Procedures automation
• Data Security processes and controls automation

Responsibilities :

Reporting to the Head of Data Governance Office, this role will be responsible for :

• Designing and implementing automatic Data Governance policies and procedures, detecting bad practices, and preventing data quality issues across different layers of the data stack and phases of the data lifecycle.
• Designing and implementing automatic Data Management policies, procedures, and controls (policy as code) to prevent data misusage.
• Designing and implementing automatic Data Quality controls, validations, metrics, and alerts.
• Collaborating with Data Governance Enterprise Architect to design the optimal data architecture & infrastructure for governed and quality data extraction, transformation, and loading, utilizing SQL, Python, and AWS big data technologies.
• Building and deploying Data Governance tools for Data Analysts and Data Scientists to support product development and innovation.

Skills

Education

• Degree in Computer & Information Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.
• Master's or advanced degree in BI & Data Analytics, Big Data.

Experience

• Proficiency in Python and working with various databases for enterprise applications and ML.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases.
• Knowledge of Data Security management including encryption, masking, GDPR, PCI, SSO, MFA.
• Experience in root cause analysis and data system automation and administration.

Technical Skills

• Experience with cloud data platforms like Snowflake.
• Programming in SQL, Python, RestAPI.
• Data ingestion and ETL tools such as Airflow, Snowpipe.
• Data transformation tools like dbt.
• Data governance platforms such as Collibra, Infosphere, Montecarlo, Informatica.
• Visualization tools like Tableau.
• Version control with Git repositories.

Soft Skills

• Project management methodologies: Agile, Scrum, Kanban.
• End-to-end process orientation, strategic thinking, data literacy, and promoting a data-driven culture.

Day-to-day activities

• Governance of the HBX Data Platform Stack, including security, user management, roles, permissions, and policies.
• Design and implement automated data governance policies and controls to prevent bad practices.
• Implement detective controls and alerts across tools and processes.
• Ensure system connectivity via API for data platform components.
• Develop and enforce data security policies to comply with regulations like GDPR and internal standards.
• Support full data lifecycle management, including upgrades, management, decommissioning, and archiving in line with data retention policies.
