Tech Lead Backend (PHP &Python) remote (Spain)

Sanoma Learning’s NPM train is looking for a BackEnd developer to join our vibrant, international team. We’re a group of enthusiastic, friendly, and talented individuals dedicated to revolutionizing primary education. As a BackEnd developer, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering our platform for primary education, used by tens of thousands of teachers and students. You will contribute to innovative solutions that meet the needs of educators and learners alike.

Working mode: We offer two work models: hybrid (3 days from home, 2 in the office) or remote with occasional visits to our Barcelona office. Work must be performed exclusively from Spain.

Role Responsibilities:

• Technical leadership: Guide development teams on best practices, coding standards, and architectural decisions;
• Governance: Participate in the Tech Lead Forum, facilitating communication and collaboration between Architecture and DevOps teams;
• Innovate: Work on Proof-of-Concepts to assess new technologies, tools, and techniques beneficial to architectural goals and Engineering processes;
• Cross-team collaboration: Work with the Architecture Office, other CLS and non-CLS DevOps teams, Product Management, etc.;
• Solution design: Translate high-level architectural vision into practical implementation strategies, including effort estimation for business cases or strategic planning;
• Mentorship: Grow the maturity of DevOps teams by identifying and addressing knowledge or skill gaps;
• Knowledge sharing: Demonstrate technical thought leadership to a broader audience.

We seek a candidate with strong technical expertise, a collaborative attitude, and the ability to contribute to system improvements and team success.

Technical Skills: Develop and enhance application features using Python 3.12, FastAPI, PHP 8+, Laravel 9+ for the Backend. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and Service Engineers to improve system architecture, performance, and maintainability. Optimize application performance for scalability and responsiveness. Use Docker and Kubernetes (K8s) for deployment, management, and monitoring of microservices. Have strong AWS infrastructure knowledge. Work with databases like MongoDB and MySQL for efficient data storage and retrieval. Follow best practices in CI/CD (Bamboo, Bitbucket Pipelines), DevOps, and cloud-native development. Write clean, modular, and well-documented code, conduct code reviews, and write unit and integration tests.

Must-have requirements:

• Backend Development: Proficiency in Python 3.12, FastAPI, PHP 8+, Laravel 9+, and reactive programming;
• Database & Storage: Experience with relational and non-relational databases;
• DevOps & Cloud: Hands-on with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, and CI/CD pipelines;
• Practices & Agile: Experience in Agile/Scrum environments, understanding of design patterns and SOLID principles;
• Languages: Fluent in Spanish and English, both spoken and written.
