The successful candidate will be intrinsically motivated and will work closely with EMBL group leaders and their team members to lead projects related to their ongoing research. The position involves collaborative research and provides opportunities for making innovations in the field by continuously advancing stem cell platforms for tissue and disease modelling through new technologies and project ideas.

The position will be directly supervised by Dr. Talya Dayton, who will work with the candidate to coordinate contributions of the role to projects led by several EMBL group leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and differentiating human pluripotent stem cells
  • Adopting and developing new differentiation and organoid culture methods
  • Developing organoid co-culture and assembloid methods relevant to EMBL Group Leader research programs
  • Development of genetically engineered cellular models, including CRISPR-generated knock-ins and knock-outs
  • Initial phenotyping of advanced cellular models

Contract duration : 2 years

Grading : 6, 7 or 8; depending on qualifications and experience

You have

  • A PhD in biology or related fields
  • Experience working with iPSCs, embryonic stem cells, and / or tissue-derived stem cells
  • Extensive expertise in working with multicellular systems and organoid cultures
  • Independent and motivated work habits
  • Proactiveness and enthusiasm toward learning new techniques
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Meticulous record-keeping skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Desire to work in a team environment
  • Strong project management and leadership skills
  • Track record of writing papers as evidenced by publications in refereed journals / preprints
  • Ability to prioritize, see the big picture, and nevertheless focus on details
  • Ability to set up effective networks and working relationships
  • Ability to critically review information and readily understand new concepts
  • Ability to develop innovative processes to achieve goals
  • Ability to independently review activities to continually work towards process improvement
