Job Offer: Postdoctoral Researcher in Tumour Microenvironment (TME) Team at Instituto de Biomedicina y Biotecnologia de Cantabria (IBBTEC), CSIC/Universidad de Cantabria

Project Overview

Focus: Modulating cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) to normalize aberrant vascularization in tumors, enhancing drug perfusion and anti-cancer drug efficacy. Funded by ERC CoG.

Research Team

We are a team of 9 researchers, including PI, 4 postdocs, 1 technician, 1 bioinformatician, and 2 PhD students, with strong funding and clinical collaborations.

Research Interests

Investigating the multicellular context of solid tumours, mechanisms of cancer progression, and therapy response, with a focus on CAFs using cellular/animal models, molecular analysis, and bioinformatics.

Project Description

This subproject explores how CAFs influence drug perfusion and therapy, employing microfluidic organ-on-chip devices to study vasculogenesis and related cellular/molecular determinants.

Candidate Responsibilities

  • Design and perform analyses to validate findings and guide follow-up studies.
  • Work on projects related to CAF heterogeneity, immune interactions, and molecular mechanisms.
  • Develop microfluidic devices, conduct advanced microscopy, perform molecular characterization, and contribute to scientific reports and publications.

Candidate Profile

Motivated researcher with initiative, experience in molecular cell biology, microscopy techniques, and leadership skills. Proficiency in experiment design, report writing, supervision, and team participation required.

Requirements

  • PhD in cancer biology, angiogenesis, or related fields.
  • Experience with wet-lab techniques and microscopy.
  • Spanish/EU citizenship.

Application Process

Send a motivation letter, career summary, and CV to Fernando Calvo with the subject "Job Offer May 2025". Reference letters are optional. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed via videoconference. The position starts Summer 2025, for 2.5 years with possible extension.
