Microsoft's Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. Our portfolio includes Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

We are hiring a Senior Applied Scientist for the Gray Systems Lab (GSL), an applied research group part of the Azure Data CTO office. GSL tackles interesting challenges in open-source and proprietary technologies related to analytics, cloud, AI, and storage systems among others. We build reliable, highly scalable, and high-performing distributed systems for data analytics on Azure, publish in top conferences, and participate in open-source projects. Our researchers and engineers have contributed hundreds of academic papers and developed technologies impacting Microsoft revenues and costs. We work on technologies including analytics on GPUs, container tech, graph databases, infrastructure and models for LLMs and data science, machine learning for systems, and more.

Qualifications :

• Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related fields with relevant experience in statistics, predictive analytics, or research.
• Master's Degree in the same fields with extensive relevant experience.
• Doctorate in the same fields with significant research experience.

Other Requirements :

• Ability to meet security screening requirements, including Microsoft Cloud Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications :

• Advanced degrees with extensive or significant experience in relevant fields.
• Proven publication record, conference presentations, and research experience in academic or industry settings.
• Experience with deploying live production systems, from ideation to shipping.
