Embrace Excellence

The Cask Operations Team plays a critical role in delivering exceptional quality liquid for The Macallan single malt scotch whisky. As part of our strategy to take control of our Sherry cask supply chain, we have invested in 4 companies across the US and Spain; Coopers Oak, Tevasa Forestal Group, Vasyma and Grupo Estévez.

The Senior Financial Accountant will be responsible for creating and embedding financial processes and controls across our Cask Operations entities in Spain. The role’s initial focus will be on supporting Tevasa Forestal Group, our 50% joint venture partner, in developing key financial processes to facilitate transition into The Edrington Group. Over time, the role will transition to provide support to our wider operations in Spain in areas including reporting, consolidation, controls, and compliance

The role is based in Jerez, Spain and reports to the Senior Finance Manager – The Macallan Cask Operations based in Glasgow, Scotland. The role will be office based but will require frequent travel across operational sites in Jerez and occasional travel to Tevasa Forestal Group’s sites in Galicia and Cantabria.

Make an Impact

The initial responsibilities of the role focusing on Tevasa Forestal Group are as follows:

  • Development and implementation of a robust monthly financial closing process for Tevasa Forestal Group entities
  • Development and implementation of a timely and accurate group consolidation process, ensuring adherence to relevant GAAP and Edrington’s accounting manual
  • Establishment of a new standard costing and intercompany pricing model for to ensure accuracy of inventory balances
  • Develop and embed new processes and KPIs around cashflow and working capital management
  • Work closely with the Jerez-based Senior FP&A Analyst to introduce monthly financial reporting across P&L, balance sheet and cashflow
  • Lead financial and tax compliance processes, working closely with existing external advisers and auditors
  • Finance roadmap – Work closely with the Senior Finance Manager and other group colleagues to develop a long-term finance roadmap with a focus on process improvement
  • Building effective and productive working relationships with the Tevasa Forestal Group team to facilitate introduction of new and more complex ways of working


As new processes and ways of working become embedded at Tevasa Forestal Group, the role will evolve to support wider Spanish cask operations with a focus on the incorporation and effective operation of a new Spanish entity:

  • ERP system implementation and testing
  • Statutory compliance and liaising with external auditors
  • Tax compliance and liaising with external tax advisers
  • Oversight of team responsible for transactional finance and working capital management
  • Work closely with group finance colleagues on aligning processes with Edrington’s ways of working in areas including treasury, tax, financial reporting and risk


Your Talent And Skills

  • You are fluent in Spanish and English
  • You are a qualified accountant, it would be preferred if you are from a ‘Big 4’ audit or manufacturing background
  • Technically strong accountant with experience in consolidation and cost accounting
  • Excellent attention to detail and reconciliation skills
  • Team-working and collaboration skills cross functionally and across regions
  • Experience of statutory reporting
  • Strong financial / commercial acumen
  • Advanced excel user who is comfortable with complex spreadsheets
  • Analytical skills and ability to manage complexity and work to tight deadlines
  • Build, nurture, and maintain relationships with multiple stakeholders across both wholly owned and joint venture businesses
  • Ability to adapt communication style to reflect a variety of stakeholders and colleagues
  • Effectively business partner with colleagues without a financial background
  • Ability and gravitas to challenge
