We are seeking a Java developer to contribute to a "Regulatory data exchange" project. The role involves working across all layers of the project to develop self-sufficient solutions.

The project primarily uses Java, along with open source frameworks such as Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Scala, Hadoop, and Angular. While the focus is on backend development, a broad range of backend skills and experience will be valued.

About the role & team

Our small development team of two based in Valencia owns one of Confluence's flagship products, Silverfinch, a data exchange and distribution platform used by asset managers and investors. Although primarily in maintenance mode after 10+ years, with a new team member, we plan to upgrade and add new features to improve the product.

The project involves high complexity due to big data processing, offering an excellent challenge. Working hours are typically 8am-5pm or 9am-6pm, with daily stand-ups. After training, team members will own parts of the application. Flexibility in work hours may be required, and occasional after-hours on-call duties might be necessary.

Skills and experience needed

• 5+ years of software development experience
• Fluent in English (spoken and written)
• Quality-oriented, self-motivated, quick learner
• Familiarity with Java open source ecosystem

Desired skills (not essential)

• Spark and Hadoop
• Experience with MVC projects
• Relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL
• Familiarity with Jooq or similar ORM tools
• Scala
• Strong Git experience
• Experience with functional programming
• Yarn / Zookeeper
• Cluster provisioning platforms like Ambari or Cloudera Manager
• HBase / HDFS
• Vagrant or similar virtualization tools
• Chef
• Gradle
• Front-end skills with Angular and Bootstrap
• Experience with TDD practices
• Knowledge of financial regulations
