Responsibilities
As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you play a critical role in facilitating the rehabilitation and improvement of individuals' functional abilities to engage in everyday activities. Your expertise lies in assessing, planning, and implementing therapeutic interventions tailored to each patient's needs. Your primary responsibilities include:
- Evaluation and Assessment: Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess the functional status, strengths, and limitations of patients across physical, cognitive, sensory, and emotional domains. Use detailed assessments to identify difficulties and establish personalized treatment goals.
- Treatment Planning and Implementation: Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, therapeutic goals, and patient preferences. Utilize evidence-based interventions and techniques to guide patients toward greater independence, productivity, and quality of life.
- Patient Education and Training: Educate patients, families, and caregivers about the therapeutic process, adaptive strategies, and techniques to improve function. Provide hands-on training in daily activities, mobility, energy conservation, and assistive device use to promote safety and performance.
- Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Teamwork: Work closely with healthcare professionals such as COTAs, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, nurses, and physicians to create comprehensive care plans. Effective communication ensures seamless support throughout rehabilitation.
- Progress Monitoring and Outcome Measurement: Monitor patient progress regularly, reassess goals, and adjust treatment plans as needed. Use standardized tools, functional measures, and patient feedback to evaluate intervention effectiveness and track improvements.
Qualifications
- Masters or Doctorate Degree in an accredited Occupational Therapy program
- Current license/certification in the practicing state
