Offer Description

We are offering an exciting position as Data Scientist at the University of Barcelona, within the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine lab ( ). The selected candidate will join the STAGE Project , an ambitious European initiative focused on delivering person-centred, life-course solutions for healthy ageing and multi-morbidity. We are looking for a Data Scientist to shape and implement AI solutions at the heart of this transformative project.

Key responsibilities :

  • Design and implement AI models for early diagnosis, screening, and personalised care pathways.
  • Ensure model fairness, robustness, and generalisability across countries and datasets.
  • Develop interpretable AI with uncertainty / confidence estimates for clinical decisions.
  • Collaborate on co-creation with stakeholders and support decision-support tool development.

Contribute to the creation of a dynamic health data infrastructure and monitoring system.

The requirements for the position are :

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in AI and machine learning applied to medical imaging.
  • Experience working with clinical or medical databases.
  • Proficiency in Python and / or C++ for AI development and data analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary research environment.
  • Enthusiasm for medical AI research and its real-world applications.
  • Strong team spirit and active participation in the lab’s scientific activities.
  • Experience collaborating with local and international project partners, including technical and clinical researchers.

Aptitude to work independently and meet deadlines.

The research projects :

You will join our exposome team, as part of ongoing projects, particularly STAGE and others such as Youth-GEMs, YouthREACH funded by the European Commission and focusing on prenatal, child, and adolescent mental health. In these projects, we are developing new trustworthy AI solutions for personalised medicine approach to tailor the care models in the field of mental health diseases. The project will build on a unique set of big data repositories to develop AI-based predictive models of mental illness trajectories and proof-of-concept tools on actionable targets. Should you join our team, you will collaborate with several technical and clinical partners within and outside Europe (e.g. in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Estonia, Italy, Croatia, Russia, Australia).

The Group :

The successful candidate will join the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Lab ( ), which is an integral part of the University of Barcelona’s Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. It is a young and dynamic research lab, highly active in international projects, and composed of >

20 enthusiastic academics, researchers, students and research managers, with expertise in data science, machine / deep learning, biomedical informatics, biomedical ethics, and health-related applications. The research team has an established track record in coordination and participation in national, European and international projects in biomedical data science and medical AI (e.g. EuCanImage, LongITools, HealthyCloud, RadioVal, DataTools4Heart, Youth-GEMs, HappyMums, AIMIX, AI4HF).

Additional Information

Eligibility criteria

The selection is made through the evaluation of the curriculum , with an overall score of zero (0) to ten (10) points. The minimum score is five (5) points. The evaluation criteria are the following :

  • Suitability of the candidate to the main function to be carried out
  • Curricular experience
  • Professional knowledge and skills

The tribunal, in its constitutive session, assesses the CVs of the candidates presented.

Selection process

A resolution of adjudication is issued to the person who, having passed the selection procedure, obtains the highest score and publishes the prioritised list of applicants who have passed the selection process, indicating the scores obtained, for subsequent recruitment, if necessary.

Additional comments

Duration of the contract of employment : 12months,renewable up to 31 / 12 / 2029.

The candidate proposed for hiring must accept the job offer within 5 working days from the date of notification of the selection.
