Offer Description

IRTA is currently seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Animal Health Program , working in the field of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) with a One Health approach. The selected candidate will contribute to the EU-JAMRAI 2 project, “Join Action Antimicrobial Resistance and Health Care-Associated Infections” which aimsto strengthen Europe’s fight against AMR through coordinated interdisciplinary collaboration across countries, institutions, and sectors, to safeguard the effectiveness of antimicrobials. The researcher willplay a key role in establishing foundations for piloting studies in environmental antimicrobial surveillance using phenotypic and genotypic tools including next generation sequencing technologies (Illumina and Nanopore). In addition, the researcher will contribute to study and develop infection prevention and control (IPC) programmes aimed at reducing antimicrobial use in food producing animals.

We invite applications from motivated candidates with relevant research experience and passion to conduct research and innovation activities mainly on the field of antimicrobial stewardship and AMR surveillance.

  • Tasks and Responsibilities :
  • Applying AMR surveillance using phenotypic and genotypic tools including Next Generation Sequencing Technologies (Illumina and Nanopore).
  • Identification and description of the key-components for IPC in veterinary medicine and evaluate these in different longitudinal practice-oriented case-studies.
  • Performance of literature review, data collection and management, involving statistical analysis.
  • Contribution to the high scientific and technological impact projects in the field of data science in collaboration with the group of researchers in antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Execution of scientific and technical tasks and taking part in the planning and execution of the planned studies to ensure the achievement of milestones of research projects and contracts.
  • Contribution to positioning the Program as a group of excellence through regular peer-reviewed publications, contributions at national and international congresses.
  • Actively contribution reporting process, such as writing progress and final reports of research activities.
  • Contribution to the teamwork and team-spirit in the research line and in the Animal Health Program, fostering collaboration and integration activities.

Required qualifications and experience :

  • PhD in Life Sciences, Veterinary Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Experience with bioinformatics software and data processing for Illumina and Nanopore (NGS).
  • Knowledge on statistical analysis and familiarity with data analysis software.
  • Proven experience inresearch skills : literature review, experimental design and implementation, data analysis, and scientific article writing.
  • Managing surveys and databases for collection of data and information.
  • Dissemination skills : presentation / communication skills, and technical writing.
  • Capacity to successfully develop collaborative research links with national and international research organizations.
  • Knowledge of Spanish language to be able to communicate with field veterinarians.
  • Knowledge of One Health, zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance research.
  • Experience in supervising BSc and MSc students.
  • Proven experience in public and private funding.

Languages :

  • High level in English and Spanish language.

Terms of appointment : temporary position for 2 years with the possibility of an extension of one more year.
