Offer Description

We are looking to employ a candidate with a degree in Biomedical Sciences for a paid traineeship position in the Neuroscience Department, in the Neurodegenerative Disease team. The project will be focused on research into Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), studying the propagation mechanisms of the disease through the use of human neuron models, Drosophila melanogaster animal models, and human samples. We shall be primarily using cellular and molecular biology techniques. The role shall be performed within a cutting-edge scientific environment with a view to training the candidate so they can write their future doctoral thesis around this project.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participating in the design and execution of experiments.
  • Handling and cultivating human neuron cells and Drosophila melanogaster models.
  • Applying cellular and molecular biology techniques (PCR, Western Blot, immunofluorescence, etc.), in addition to imaging techniques (fluorescence and confocal microscopy).
  • Analyzing experiment data and helping to write up scientific reports.
  • Collaborating in the development of research for a future doctoral thesis on the subject.
  • Degree in Biomedical Sciences or a similar field of study.
  • Master’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences or a similar field of study, either completed or in progress.
  • Excellent academic record to be eligible for future competitive contracts (>

  • Basic knowledge of cellular and molecular biology techniques.
  • A good level of English, both written and spoken.
  • Curiosity about science and the motivation to develop a career in research.
  • An interest in research of neurodegenerative disease, particularly ALS.

PREFERRED :

  • Knowledge of statistics and bioinformatics, and experience with computer tools such as Python or R.
  • A disability certificate of 33% or higher is a plus.

  • TYPE OF CONTRACT (LEGAL REFERENCE) : Six-month traineeship contract, which may be extended up to 12 months
  • WORK SCHEDULE : Full-time
  • EXPECTED START DATE : 07-01-2025
  • GROSS ANNUAL SALARY : €20,808 per year (gross)

The remuneration shall be based on the candidate’s commitment and merit, as well as how suited they are for the role. The worker must comply with the operating rules set by the Biogipuzkoa Institute in terms of commitment, duties, working hours, leave entitlements, etc.
